Hi Everyone,
We now have the SCT Tuner available as an option instead of the VEC3 for the existing and future Supercharger kits. This post is in reference to existing kits.
If you have a standard engine combination (stock motor with simple bolt-ons such as exhaust and larger throttle body), you can use the stock PCM, reflashed with our SCT programs instead of the VEC. We have programs for manual and automatic transmissions using 91 octane, 93 octane and race gas or water / methanol injection.
If you have a water / methanol injection that was controlled by the VEC, we had to come up with another way to control the pump output based on engine load. We’ve done so by adding a boost activated switch and changing the trigger to the W/M system.
There is no additional power to be gained by replacing the VEC with the SCT, but there are additional features the SCT can provide that the VEC cannot, resulting in overall improvements (fan temperature, turn off downstream cat sensors, shift points, acts as a code reader, etc).
The price of the SCT with Supercharger programs is the same as our regular SCT programmers ($599) and you will need a replacement 2 bar MAP sensor and hoses at $45 to make the system work properly. If you have the W/M system and need the boost switch and revised wiring, it’s $69.
If you have a custom engine or the need to do custom programming / datlogging on your own, stay with the VEC. The SCT will not come with software that allows you to change that. You may purchase that direct from SCT for a single use / box copy for about $1300, which is more than the VEC.
