Aircraft and ships continue to search the Atlantic Ocean off the South Carolina coast for an F-16 fighter pilot whose jet collided with another aircraft during night training exercises.

Coast Guard Petty Officer Bobby Nash said Saturday the search for Capt. Nicholas Giglio has expanded to about 4,000 square miles. Coast Guard units from four states are involved.

Authorities said there were reports of an oil slick and debris after the crash, but no signals were received from emergency beacons on the plane or pilot.

The pilot of the other jet was able to land his damaged plane after the Thursday night collision. He was not injured and has returned to Shaw Air Force Base in Sumter.

We have been looking for him with our aircraft over the water. No luck so far.

Wreckage was found awhile ago but no pilot so far.

So far only confirmed the first jet had a successful ejection. The reason we feel the second one didn't is because there is no ELT going off for the second jet. But that is not conclusive of a non-ejection.

I can call the Squadron now if you like and see if there are any updates?

Nobody answered, so we are not up in the air now....don't have enough of our planes to cover 24hrs. Most are overseas.

If he was out there, he should have been found now. There were many capable assets out there searching.

I was just wondering because he's been in the water for a long long time, I didnt know if it was possible to stay afloat on your own for this long.

You have a survival kit, supplies, water and a raft attached. He's young and in good shape. Water is not that cold. He could have been wearing a "poopie suit", which is a rubber suit which can keep you alive for a long time in cold water. So yes, if he is out there, he still could be alive.

However, he should have had two radios, markers, sea dye, signal mirros, etc. They know the approximate location and sea movements. There are some quite capable assets out there looking, or were looking. My opinion is that it is not looking good.
