i've been wondering if anyone else has trouble shifting into 3rd gear mine seems very tight when i try to shift fast. Is there an adjustment? The other gears work fine.

Bleed clutch and add new fluid while doing so. Usually air in the line ;-)

I'm new to this truck, obviously, but is it the hydraulics that make the shifter feel like it's snagging every where, or like it has no lubrication in the mechanism and has no spring return...?

It's almost like instead of having 7 possible locations, it is like moving the lever around in a pit full of broken glass.

I haven't pulled it apart yet to check, but it feels real nasty..

The stock shifter is pretty sloppy. If you are going to take it apart, remove the rubber isolator on the shifter and replace the bushing in the top of the transmission with the brass one.

I don't know that its just sloppy...

It feels very difficult to get into gear, and just down-right difficult to move. It feels like it gets hung up on the gate.

There's a couple of local trucks, I'm gonna try out the ones that I can to see if this is model specific. I have never felt a T56 that was this difficult to move.

Ask someone who is good at shifting to drive it for 5-10 min. Eliminate driver mod. I did that, turned out i was over shooting the gate for 3rd on the 2-3 shift. Gotta let the shifter springs do it's job and just push forward. No left/right.

That's the thing...

There is NO spring action. I'm used to pulling the shifter out of first gear, letting go, and the springs would pull the handle back to center. That doesn't happen with this one. When you let go of the handle it stays pulled to the left, or right when coming from fifth or sixth.

I'll see if Zach wants to trade for a few minutes. Could be me...

BTW, I haven't missed any gears. The shifter just FEELS like trash.

If the truck has high miles you may want to 1st switch out the tranny fluid.....
Try Mobil 1 ATF

Update-

Removed the rubber isolation pad, removed the shifter base, lubricated the pivot cup...

night and day difference!!

May not need an update afterall.
