Shrouds in grill removable?

Im concerned about these hot florida summers and overheating. Right now i get high underhood temps during stop and go driving and slow cruising. Low temp thermostat doing little good as i am around 200 degrees most of the time anyway. I noticed only 50% of our grill actually lets air through. Wondering if those shrouds/baffles on each side of our grill can be removed to help cool things down. I may have to spray the ends of the hose connectors so i wont have shiney aluminum screaming behind my grill. Anyone done this mod and if so notice any impovement?

It may cool it off some but you performance will suffer, and your top speed will be a few mph low...

I took mine off and it really didnt make much diff.in temp at all. leave em on.
Putting my drivers side back on to cover some of the chit.

170 degree t stat will help, that and some water wetter. man you need to try and make the se gtg. its gonna be a blast.

The shrouds actually force the air to the radiator helping to cool the engine...removing them would be counter-productive....200-220 on a hot day in traffic is normal.....only way for cooler temps is a 170 stat and a flash to get the fan to come on at a lower temp..

Just like in Nascar, you want the air to pass around the car not through it, that would slow you down. Adding a stage two flash and 170 t stat will keep those temps under 180` at all times.

Mine were gone when I bought the truck ---luckly I found out who the previous owner was through a freind and he still had the baffles and the factory air cleaner and let me have them----The baffles are still off and the truck runs around 205 all the time in the florida hot summers....I will most likey put them back on when I get the time.....

If you'll notice, the passenger side baffle has been molded to direct air into the air filter box so I say, you need 'em. And they direct ait to the radiator. From what I understand, 200* temps for these motors is normal. Too low wears on the motor.

unless you got your stage II from boomer!! Mine runs around 200 ish all day long.170 t-stat included!! Talked to him about changing it up to turn the fan on sooner and he suggested I BUY his fan kit!!

200* is normal, especially if you are running 0w-40 oil. The oil is much thinker when the engine warms up, thus making it more than safe to run at those temps. with my 170* Tstat I run 200* all day here in PHX, but hen again its 115* outside

I have tried everything for the heat under the hood....nothing worked except this. I don't get over 200 deg now but i don't know if it was worth the work and $ for 10 degrees less.

I removed mine but only bcause I've got the K&N. I like it. And the front end is huge enough air will get to this NO MATTER WHAT>

I removed mine for looks...don't think I will miss the mph much...it will also help keep me in the 14's if it slows me down a little...
