Since it has come up

Time to think about the families of the troops. If our current troops get extended the three additional months that the Pentagon has requested, the families are going to need our support in any way we can imagine.

Anyone got any ideas how we might be able to show our support for those that also live with fear every day here at home? Can we as a group do something (extension or not)?

After reading this thread, chocking back tears, I just wanted to say God Bess you all, and God Bless America. I'm home.

Hey Roy, this is something that can go a long way towards morale of those away from home and those at home waiting for them.

Operation Phone Home

Troops with phone cards

USO Operation Phone Home is a campaign designed to provide prepaid international calling cards to as many of our service men and women overseas as possible. This program designates 100% of monetary donations to the purchase and distribution of 100, 300 and 500 minute global calling cards to deployed service members.

To contribute to USO Operation Phone Home, donate online and choose the "donate to a specific program" option.

This is something that bothers the hell out of me. Whenever I am at any kind of sporting event I always end up pissed over the way people flat out don't show the respect for our National Anthem, and in turn our Nation. My kids will never do that, it is something that will be instilled with them from day 1.

I'm the same way, even after all these years when I hear the National Anthym I get tears in my eyes and By God I'm not ashamed to admit that to anyone and I want to throttle everyone around me that doesn't even pay attention or show due respect.

Roy

15 month tours...

12 months at home...

I lost two children and a wife to combat tours...

We need to help the families as much as we can...this generation of military people is having it tougher than any military generation ever has.

I really want some sort of visible gesture to say to the families that we care and we appreciate their sacrifice...more ideas please!
