I'm in Singapore and calling home has caused my company to complain alittle.

So I bought a Skype world unlimited account for 13 dollars. This worked good but I wanted more, so I read into the plan alittle better.

It comes with 3 skype phone numbers. free voice mail and free unlimited calling around the world from my computer.

So I've set up a phone number at my local 281 number and a mt clements MI number. My Family and friends call the 281 and 586 numbers for free, that rings my Skype, now if I don't answer I have it set to forward my calls to my Singapore cell phone........................... FOR FREE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

All I have to do is call my wife or friends let it ring a few times, and hang up. Then they call my Skype phone and we talk for as long as i can. The quality is comparable to real cell to cell call. I'm saving a lot of money and so are all of my buddies here........... I'M A HELL OF A HAND :)

I hope y'all can use this to save some money this would work for anyone with family that is long distant.

See Jay, that's why I read all your posts.. Because SOMEDAY you'll come up with an affordable way for me to keep in touch with home.. Instead of what I'm doing now.. Strolling around Stavanger with NO cell phone, staying in my apartment with NO phone and I limit my calls for when I am at work in the facility. This skype deal sounds great, but a bit too complicated for me. I was told about buying an international capable phone, then when I am at a particular location buy a local sim card and load it up with minutes. I haven't explored that avenue yet either. Instead I tote around international calling cards in case I run into an unsuspecting phone.. But the operators speaking different lanuages really screws with my head.

The Skype thing is not that complicated Ant. You could easily set that up and take advantage of the great rates!

It's easy sign up for the unlimited work pic a phone number or 3 i use the 281 number. Then set call forwarding to your norway phone...........boom 5 mins and your done!

I told my company about this the initial thought was that I was a genius. Boss took it to the higher ups, they said no that I would have to pay all my skype bills and if i wanted reimbursing I'd have to buy phone cards.

So I'm going to buy phone cards and give them to my Bangladesh workers that make 16 singapore dollars a day.

Also go to buy my little Smile "E" a bike tomorrow, they love me here!

I have the same thing, with a few different options. First I bought a cell phone type phone that you can get onto open access points (coffee shops, librarys, whatever) and place Skype calls. Then on my work phone (windows PDA thing from Verizon) I also installed the application. This covers me on the road, or when working somewhere that there is no cell reception, but I have WiFi. This happens quite often working in equipment rooms and such.
Also at home I bought a D-link adapter that I connect to a computer and a normal home phone (or wireless) and also place calls and recieve calls at home. Been without a normal land line for 2 years now.

Okay, what if you're in different locations? I couldn't get a Norway phone because this is probably my last trip here. With Skype, wouldn't I have to know where I'd be going? And be in a given place regularly?

You would just need to change your call forwarding number

Like if I leave Singapore and go to Korea.............. I click on the call forward button and change it to the korea number. easy.

the local number stays the same that way my family and freinds can call for free. I'M LOVING IT, MY WIFE CALLS ME FROM THE USA FOR FREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE.

Okay so congratulations on convincing me. I will get set up with Skype as soon as I get back home. I'm sure it'll work in B.F.E. when I'm on the African continent trying to catch Silverback's friends on film.
