Some exhaust issues - Please help

FATJACK ran the OEM muffler with no cats. He still has the resonator though. It was pretty mild at idle and low RPMs. At WOT it screamed pretty good! It had a nice tone, but not very deep. I think with yours not having the resonator will be another story. Ditching the resonator deepens it up quite a bit.

I hate bolted on exhaust, i am having all my exhaust welded execpt where the exhaust meets my long tube headers.
My magnaflow also has an enormous hole in the side of it. Im not convinced they make a good muffler for these trucks. I have powersticks i ordered from stinker, soon as they're on ill try and get an exhaust clip.

With several of you complaining of the same problem with the Magnaflows, sounds like they have a problem. They may have changed the specs on the mufflers - like going to a thinner gauge. What's Magnaflow's warranty? Dynomax had lifetime warranties on Super Turbos & Ultra Flows.

FYI Scott, I've got dynomax bullets on the truck and I love em!!! (They're cheap too! Loud though.)

I heard the powersticks in person, and I think they sound good too. FATJACK has, but still has the resonator. I bet without it, his truck will be loud as shit also.

I have seen a couple of blown out Magnaflows as well.
I run a Magnaflow with a cross over built into it.No deceleration pop and sounds o.k. too.Are there different types of magnaflows for our application:dontknow: No signs of any damage on mine yet.I am thinking that the issue at hand has to do with the decel pop.

Hey Mickey...

That may be true. I love the decel pop though. I downshift to 1st just to get every one. If that is the problem maybe a poll is required to see driving habits and a link to failed Magnaflows. It really sucks that a top product fails like this and has a crappy warranty.

Good idea:rock:

They will gladly exchange mufflers with their warranty but i have to have a RMA# (returned material authorization number) from the original supplier. Hard to get that when you have a used truck that came with it.

Bought mine off ebay before I found this site. Will they warranty the muffler by just calling them and sending the old one back? I doubt it...

Doubtful. Been few years already. I'm gonna go with the powersticks and blow windows out and set alarms off everywhere. I do wonder if the decel pop is what ruins the magnaflows.

hey Scott, just saw this thread...guess thats why you called hahahahahahah

when your lazy ass gets back in town just tighten down the headers, we probably should have gone back and looked at them after we drove it but someone was so excited...ahahahahahaahahahah.

shouldnt be any problems once you tighten them!

When I had my mids installed I had several leaks which made the exhaust sound horrible. I hated it and cursed that I messed with it at all. It took several trips back to the shop but after I finally got the leaks welded up all the garbage noise was gone and it sounded fantastic. Any leak will ruin the tone. Whether its from the headers, mids or hole in the muffler its all destroying the final outcome. Weld it all up IMO.

Good advice. Going with the power sticks and will weld and tighten everything up nice as soon as I put it up in the air for the oil change. I'm amazed how bad it sounds from just a few leaks.

How do you like those power stick mufflers? Do you have a soundclip? Looks like an easy install. No hangers for them? They the same length as stock muffler? I may just go to Midas that did the original install but without cats, I may have an issue. My local mechanic will do anything for me though ;)

My config is a bit different than yours, but I don't think you can go wrong with the Powersticks on almost any config :D

Gonna post some pics but its the same as the others that have had issues. Two rectangular holes (one each side) a little bigger than an OREO double stuff ;) size.

Only noticed one until recently and now its shot. No such thing as a free lunch...

Anyone know if stock muffler sounds good with bassani's and catless mids? Also does the stock muffler work with the magnaflow tips?
With the bassanis and the catless mids our stock muffler actualy sounds awsome. But It was to loud for me so I am going to get some resonators put on them. But I bet youll like the sound:burnout: :burnout:

Thanks everyone... Power sticks will be ordered in a day or so and I will post up pics and sound clips once its all installed. I just hope I can reach all the header bolts without taking the whole thing apart again. I should be able to get them while its in the air. I hope...

Just wait for the exhaust (and you) to cool off :p :D
