You know - I've had family and friends that have been many wars - and that has affected me in one way or another, but you never feel the emotion or intensity until you go to Arlington Cemetry or watch the Guards of the Uknown Solider. Even though I have dealt with my family being in wars throughout history, it never truly hit me until I took a trip a couple of years ago and saw both. The most emotional day of my life! If you can stand there and watch the surroundings and say that you are affected or humbled by it - then you are not American, but you are not human!!! I am so grateful for all the men and women that serve our country - even if my own beliefs don't agree with war - I still honor and respect them and my heart goes out to them!!

Looks like Arlington Cemetery. If you ever have a chance, GO. I viewed the changing of the guard and a wreath laying ceremony complete with bomber flyover. Very hallowed and sacred ground. A very humbling experience to see how many have given the ultimate sacrifice for all of us.
I almost wrote this on one of the Memorial Day threads and changed my mind, but here goes.
Do the Iraqi people deserve freedom? To me, freedom is something that is fought for and won. It cannot be given. If it is, it will soon be lost again, because you did not pay for it.
To me it's like the little rich spoiled kid that is given the expensive car. Does he appreciate it? Generally not. He did not earn it.
To me it's the same with freedom.
Oh well, never mind me. I'm operating on even less sleep than normal.

He told me how his father, uncle, and brother had been killed fighting the insurgency... and he had no doubt that his time would come sooner or later. There are 1000's just like him.
