spark plug question

since i will be installing headers. i figure i might as well replace plugs since they now have 27K miles on them. i had planned on running straight oem (champion part# RC12ECC), but i saw these champion part# RC12PEC5. they are single platinum and cost only $0.71 more per plug. anyone running these? or should i stay OEM? thanks

i went with Denso Iridiums.
check out Sparkplugs.com for a good list whats available for our engines.
might want to change plug wires while your there. MSD's are good. i went with the Quilty Wire plug wires.

I have had these plugs in mine for about 3 months, no complaints. I did try my best to index them. Truck feels like its a little smoother than the standard Champions, but no proof. I figured I'd try them and see if they last any longer than the others.

I have not but it would be a good idea. The heat really cuts the life of the wires. When I installed the Roe I installed the high temp 8.5mm MSD wires that came with the kit. I replaced those wires at about 10K per Stinker's advice.....made a remarkable difference...smoother and all but eliminated the backfire.

If you Jet coat those headers Ken it will cut a lot of the heat out...but still would get the shields..........BTW..you should replace those plug wires but remember this is a major job on our trucks...intake has to be removed.

just the heat sleeves that come on the Quality wires. no booty's on the boots. never hurts though. Jet Hot works very well

i beleive it will be super expensive to jet hot the headers i got, because the tells me they are ceramic coated.

Jet Hot is the ceramic coatin. if they are already done, then the header deal is a bit sweeter. if not i would guess around $250 + shippin would be a good investment

There's a big difference between Jet-Hot coating and ceramic coating.
The Jet-Hot will run about 50% cooler than ceramic coating.
For my stock exhaust manifolds, it was under $400 with shipping, and about 10 days door-to-door.

For spark plugs on N/A engines, go with the OEM Champions.

i had read that thread last night. if i remember correctly didn't you mention a significant price difference for headers that were already coated?

Double-check with the folks at Jet-Hot, but I don't believe there is.
They strip the parts to bare metal, so paint, powder, ceramic....doesn't matter. It all comes off before they get the treatment.

I think the only thing they charge to remove is chrome plating. At least they did 9 years ago when I had it done.

I'm using the DEI booties on my MSD's. The stock metal sleeves had definate signs of arcing from the stock wires.
