Well, my buddy Darren and I met this week for dinner at the Skylon Tower in Niagara Falls, Ontario. We've been online friends for a very long time, but this was our first opportunity to meet in person. We decided to make it a momentus occassion:
The first ever meeting between a Dodge Ram SRT-10 and a Mercedes Smart Four-Two!

After an awesome dinner, we went down to the 98% empty parking lot, and took a bunch of pics (that turned out like crap because digital cameras are not able to take any sort of picture at night. Next time: daylight!)
Anyway, we had a great time 'posing' the truck and the car for the pics. It's very easy for one person to simply push the Smart into position.

With the pictures done, it was time to go for a ride!
  • I showed him the definition of "thrust".
  • he showed me the definiton of "turning radius".
I have to admit, for a go-kart with a roof, the Smart is a pretty cool little machine.
I was only able to hit the top of 2nd before the end/wall of the parking lot, but it was a good place to show off the insane stopping power. LOL Also, the parking lot was pretty damn rough, so I got a little bit of wheel hop when we took off. They really need to pave it (for my performance needs. LMAO).

I'll post more when I get back from Rhode Island. Here are a couple of pics I took. Enjoy!

I know where I WOULDNT want to be in a head on collision. Kinda cute car though.

The funny part is, the wife would love that car to run around town and do patient visits

That little car is just wrong!!!! Makes a Mini look big!!! It would be a cute car if real cars and trucks wernt on the road!! An accident in that thing and your done.

patrick

I bet it gets 105/MPG! It reminds me of the Yugo!

I want to see the pics from when you picked it up and put it in the bed of the truck!

Ooops, am I showing my age!?

Patrick- Amazingly, it's a pretty safe little car. There's a "safety egg" for the cockpit. The crash tests are impressive.
It's also not really designed for highway use/speeds. It's a commuter car for zipping around crowded cities.

Even with all the safety features in the Smart, my standard line is: "Until Peterbilt stops making vehicles, I won't own one." :)

The gas mileage is incredible. You can put an eyedropper worth of gas in there and drive around all week. LOL
Both Darren and I are 6'1", and we had no problem fitting in the Smart without having to crunch our necks or have onlookers question our hetero-ness. Given, the SRT-10 is *much* more roomy, the Smart was certainly not uncomfortable.
The Smart has a great stability control program, so it's almost impossible to roll it.
The paddle shifters are pretty sweet! Imagine our trucks with paddle shifters!

What's amazing to me is that these two vehicles come from the same 'family tree'. I think it's kinda cool that Dr. Z is having his eco-warriors design some super-fuel-saver, while he lets the power-mongers go nutty with "flying bricks". It was plainly evident when I was in the Smart grinning at the turning radius, and Darren was in the truck tenting his shorts as we hit almost 70mph. :D

Wow, never thought I would see 2 complete opposites together heheh...look at the bright side, if you both drive at the same time, your gas averages out between the two :D

You could save money on a casket :D Just need a big hole dug and we could drop you in :2in1:

The pics remind me of Spike and Chester from the old Warner Brothers cartoons:

(guess which one is which ;) )

The SRT-10 is an impressive beast. My wife now wants one. :)

In truth, part of the reason we got such a fuel-efficient vehicle was precisely for that averaging-out factor. She's a carpenter, and at some point, she's probably gonna need a truck to haul around all of her tools and materials.

i definitely can relate to the turning radius problem...... messed up my front rim shortly after i bought my srt-10...... ouch.

Well if the car ever brakes down you can just put it in the back if the truck.

[*]I showed him the definition of "thrust".
[*]he showed me the definiton of "turning radius".

Well, I'll tell you which one of those is my priority. Besides, just hammer the throttle, drop the clutch and turn the wheel. You would be surprised just how tight our tuning radius can be also!!!

Oh, and the "safety egg" thing. Am I missing something or are they comparing their safety to one of the most fragile things in nature? Oh, wait, I get it, when you get in an accident, you can pry YOURSELF out of your little death trap like a cute little hatchling. How nice.

Highway speed or any speed, these things have to be one of the least safe vehicles on the road. Where is Ralph Nader when we need him?
