SRT10 Truck for a DD in Ohio?

Hi, New here. Just test drove an 04 SRT10 truck. Love the truck, but do have a few questions. How are these trucks as a daily driver in the snow belt? I had a 2wd 05 Ram before, so 2wd truck in winter in not new to me, but given the fact that this is a 500hp 6sp, will it be too crazy for me to even try to drive it in the winter? Also how long will the stock clutch last?

Welcome, Some of the members that live where it snows can answer that for you. The clutch, I went through 2 OEMs and got about 28,000 miles out of each one. Just depends on how you drive i guess.
 
well i will put it this way. come winter or first sight of snow i put it into storage and run it once a month till the ground thaws out. have a 2004 avalanche i drive during the winter let it get nasty from the winter chemicals. but these trucks dont get the greatest traction on even wet ground just cause of the way they are geared. snow and ice mine wont even move.
 
Get some 20" wheels and snow tires... throw about 300lbs of sand in the bed and let-er-rip! :rock: I always preferred a stick-shift in the snow anyway. You can start in 2nd gear and won't have to worry about the auto kick-down that could put you in the ditch (been there :argh: Damned Furd Lightning :mad: ). You'll be fine, as long as you keep yer head on your shoulders. ;)

Good point on the 2nd gear start... I am assuming all SRT 10 trucks comes with suregrip/posi traction?
 
i have 70k on my original clutch....and i've been pulling a trailer since i bought it with 15k....i drive it every day (obviously)...although SC winters hardly qualify for "winters"....i take it snowboarding in NC/WV, as well....if you know how to drive it...it'll be fine...
 
less than 8000 of these trucks left in the world, if its in good condition Iwouldnt drive it in the snow, they are an endagered animal.
unless yours is like viperhaulers, then jsut drive the fool out of it.
but they drive pretty much like every other truck in the snow, light in the ass end
 
Got caught in Dayton, Oh. when about 4" fell overnite. Drove like a champ, just be careful.

These trucks are extremely mild mannered as long as you keep your foot out of it. Picked a customer up at the airport, when we arrived at the dealership he commented on how smooth the small V-8's drive now. I just smiled and told him yes.

In my opinion, EXCELLENT DD.

Also, Is towing an absolute no no? How about if is just towing something light like jetski?

Sanchoba, Very nice ride you got there. Did these truck had an option on strips when new or is this a later addition? Also is yours paint or vinyl?

had them painted on....
 
just because its got a v10 in it dont mean its not a truck. drove my qc in the snow on long island, yes you can tow...many guys do.

Jeff, I am very interested, but before I buy I must make room in the garage and looks like I will have to let one of my Mopar muscle go. If you are interested on trading for a 69 440 Dart, let me know.
 
I had my truck for 2 winters in NE PA..It wasnt bad..we had a few 6" snowfalls that melted right away, and the truck was fine. People look at you a little strangely, but as long as you arent hot doggin it, the truck will bee ok..We did have 2 storms I remember where I was leery of taking the truck out, so I took the wifes truck instead...Just be careful..As for towing..can you tow anything with an RC?...lol..BTW..welcome to the RBC...
