Stage II Flash - engine temperature

I recently installed a stage II flash in QC (thanks NYCSTEV), but I notice that my fan comes on frequently. Is this typical or is something wrong. Makes a whirlwind sound, really loud. Does the thermostat read my engine as overheating? Engine oil runs at about 180. :dontknow:

did you replace the thermostat with a 172,,,if not you ecm is turning on your fan at 175 or 180 and your thremo stat is trying to keep engine at 210 or so aka on off on off

Did you install the new t stat? If not your fan will come on everytime the engine temps hit 180 or so...............which will be all the time. Mine was like that untill I installed the t stat..........and now...very rarely.

Huh, seems like a simple enough correction. My first mod, KIX ASS! Where does the forum recommend I get a new thermostat from. Is this something as simple as exchanging the flash, or does it require at little more expertise?

That fourth hidden bolt is a sumbitch.............try not to get the coolant all over your hands and wrench........very slippery.

Do a search for the t stat installation......somebody wrote up a complete to do with all the proper sized tools etc..... Its a simple mod......

get good pair of mechcanic gloves ,,,i cut my old mits up till i did,,a small ratchiting box end wrench will work if you take your time on it,,,i had to grind down out side of chrome on wrench to get it over head of bolt ,,it was a great sacrafice of my tool ,it will be reveired lol but its in the never use again tool draw

Yes fan will cycle more. But you have to change the Stat. When it gets hot out the fan will run ALOT more

I tried finding a post where other guys have picked up the t-stat for cheap but I couldn't find it right away. I'm impatient so I stopped looking
I believe it was NAPA but don't quote me on that. I picked mine up from Roe along with a replacement O-ring gasket. You don't need the o-ring the one that is in there can be re-used, I'm just anal like that and replaced it with a new one.

To get the old gasket out just use a thin bladed straight screw driver. Be easy b/c you do not want to score the housing for the t-stat.

Before you change the t-stat out you need to drain some of the coolant. I used a turkey baster thingy and suctioned out some of the fluid from the radiator to get it below the level of the hose to t-stat housing (skip this step and you will have coolant running for a bit). You can also drain it from the bottom of the radiator using the pet cock. Hope this helps you out.

Just one more piece of advice. When you put the bottom bolt back in start the top two first to hold the housing in place. Put the bottom bolt on a torx bit, #30 I think, and use an extension, bit driver, or whatever, and insert the bolt into the hole and start it that way by hand.

didn't need a new gasket or o-ring, but be careful of the radiator drain plug......
i didn't find that 4th bolt all that bad, myself.....:dontknow:
