Straight pipes or not ??

The sound clip...with a guest appearance by Aero Space...

is straight pipes with only an X pipe.

It is raspy, buzzes, and sounds like a huge ricer.

Loud, and obnoxious yes...but not nice.

Understand that this is a built FI engine pushing nearly 800 crank hp...

What do you think If I just remove the stock muffler, and put an x pipe it's place, would it sound like crap???
 
Try it and see. If you don't like it, try something else. I don't see how it could be REAL loud with you still having all 4 cats and the stock resonator. The cats muffle the sound quite a bit.

Thanks, I think I will try that route...Will the motor throw any codes with the muffler removed and the x-pipe in it's place, I am not sure if it will cause any back pressure issues:confused:

I agree with Roz...if sound is your goal...then go the sans muffler route.

But I think you need to stop and think about what you want your truck to be in two or three years.

If you plan on other modifications, and you will, be sure to plot a sequence of modifications that will not cause you to pay two or three times to correct some of your short term goals.

Not fun, too loud to be comfortable. Felt like if an officer pulled up and set next to me, he would have to pull me over...now have just a magnaflow muffler...nothing else. I like it.

. . . And you won't see any codes with the X pipe. The only thing that will throw a code is when you start removing cats.
 
Codes can be handled...but I still agree...even go without the X pipe...just replace the stock muffler with two stainless pipes...two front welds and replace the rear clamps.
 
That is the one thing I did when I built my exhaust sys. I ran straight pipe all the way out the back and left the 2 cats in place... WOW!!! Oh I loved the sound! It was loud and to me sounded just like a viper car at the track uncorked... when you reved it and stood behind the truck, it did hurt the ears and boy did I get looks everywhere I went! BUT I noticed I lost a lot of my low end TQ... I hated that, so I did some testing and wound up putting on the 3.5"race series magnaflow mufflers... Still loud from what my wife and neighbors tell me BUT not nearly as loud as without... LOL... I did like it and didn't care if it was to loud to others, I just mashed the skinny pedal and was gone... It was great... Don't know if this helps... FATTONY

Why did you loose low end TRQ???
 
According to my testing and research calls, this eng needs a bit of backpressure to keep the low end TQ but the upper end HP gains are apparently big. Yes my TQ did drop a little (but to me it was A LOT) just by running 3" straight pipe all the out the back. I picked up a lot more TQ when I addaed the muffs vs. the stock tanker that was there. I would like the sound back and keep the TQ, so soon I will try eliminating the cats and add the sims and see what that does...
 
I cant believe you still have a stock exhaust Anthony!!!!! WTF dude:confused: ......you have been a member for years!!! LOL :D I had my exhaust system ordered before my truck even showed up on Maui!!! Improving the tone was priority #1 IMO.

Just order a muffler from somewhere, dump those cats and get your smile on dude!!!:burnout: LOL Anything is better than the stock UPS truck tone!!

Depends on the type of testing your state/county does.

In many locations the emissions test just looks for a code from the OBD II port. In that instance the installation of sims between the sensors and the exhaust flow usually works. If you have the 04, just strap the rear sensors to the frame...and they get exactly what they want...clear air...and put plugs in your bungs.

If you have a sniff test and a visual undercarriage inspection it takes a little more work.
