I have to take the driver's side header off to replace the gasket. One bolt actually feels like it gets tighter as I back it out. They are Stage 8 blots and I know I put anti sieze on them when they went in. Any suggestions:dontknow: . I don't want to strip the threads in the head, that would be BAD:(

I suggest some penetrating oil.
Wait a bit.
Back it out a bit, till it gets tighter.
Then back in a little less than you came out.
Penetrating oil.
Wait.
Out a bit and in.....

Thats what I was thinking, I just sprayed it a few minutes ago, then my work light burned out, I can't catch a damn break:argh: . Back at it tomorrow.

thats about all ya can do. time & patience. if ya can get a good hit at it. might try givin it a couple of 3 whacks. that has helped before.
when ya get it out. be sure chase the threads with a tap.
even if ya pull the threads, no biggie. just have to heli-coil it.

good luck:rock:

Sorry to hear about your problem.... you might be ok, I've removed many exhaust bolts that felt tight coming out and all of them finally came out without striping.

Just what I woulda suggested, Dale.;)

use an open wrench when youre loosening up the bolt put a small prey bar or scewdriver on the head of the bolt and the wrench cock the wrench alittle and pry up as you loosing the bolt.

Thanks everyone. I just went out and sprayed it again. The bolt is about half way out now.It looks like I can slide the header off if I remove the valve cover. That will give me better access to the offending bolt. And since I have a shiny set of JMB vlave covers sitting here...

Good luck!! post up some pics of those shiny new valve covers:rock:

Use the penetrating oil and work it out slowly. I had an O2 sensor on my Chevy that wouldn't come out. Used the penetrating oil and took my time. It took over an hour for it to finally come out -- found out the bung threads had a burr which caught the O2.

YAY, I got it out safely. This bolt was right next to the area where the gasket had failed. I wonder if they had anything to do with each other.

Anyone know torque specs for valve cover and intake manifold bolts? Also, what are people using for wire looms with their MSD's. I'm off to Advance Auto to get 2 more DEI boot sleeves(damn parts stores stocking only 8, what are they thinking?), those metal sleeves are NOT going back in. I can see an area on #1 sleeve that looks like it has been arcing.

Was the gasket that failed made of steel OEM? Stage8 bolts are ok for oem steel gaskets but cause problems with compression type Garlocks. The softer gaskets need to be re-torqued twice before the Stage8's are used.

It was the replacement gasket that came with the headers. A have new Mopar steel gaskets going in.
