sub woofer or amp trouble??

hello all. been a member for a short while now. i own a 2004 srt10. recently the sub woofer quit working. need to know whether its the speaker or the amp? also what is better product for fixing or replacing?:dontknow:

it should be the amp , the 04's had amp probs, as many guys on here that are changing there sytems , somebody may have one laying around.

i think it was the one under the center console that went bad alot.

but too we got so many guys changing out there systems now, you should get tons of info on different things to do:rock: :rock: :rock:

In the meantime, You can go to the blue bar and do a search.
oem subs, Or oem amps. there is a lot to read here, Hope this helps.

More then likely it's the amp. Mine took a crap and instead of fixing that POS, I just swapped the entire system out. Couldn't be happier

Yes mine is in the shop right now for the same problem, this is the 3rd time. I guess it is time that I change mine as well.

My amp went bad years ago. The best fix I discovered is to change out all that cheap ass stereo equipment at your earliest convenience. If losing steering wheel controls is your issue, there's ways to retain them with an aftermarket system.

Do tell anthony? I am at the verge of changing out my system, but not really big in to the electronics seen so I would not even know if I am getting the run around.

Man post up some pix of your engine bay? Has it changed.

what would be a good quick replacement for the amp? i know its a dual voice coil woofer...is there a plug and play available? (or splice a couple of wires?)

If you change only the amp you may then blow the sub if you over power it.....Those subs in there are so weak a walmart amp could push it....Best bet is to change the system out like others have said, it's what I recently did and couldn't be happier, I love music though!
BTW I think somewhere online sells a harness to connect an aftermarket amp to your system

I just replaced my amp and sub. I am using an Infinity Kappa Perfect 10.1 sub in a vented enclosure (it is tuned to 30 Hz). I am driving it with a Fosgate Punch 150 in mono. It feels like it's going to blow the windows out.

Things you'll need:

• Quality two channel or mono sub amp
• Quality subwoofer
• 12-13 ft of 4-8 AWG power cable
• In line fuse holder
• Three output positive battery clamp
• Quality line level converter or chose amp with high level input
• Ring terminals for the appropriate size wire.

Do not use the factory power wire to power your new amp. You will fry it. BTW is it easier to remove the seats during the install. They will come out as a pair through the passenger side with help and patients.

Yeah it changed. In fact a few things changed. I DID post up pics before. I can't get to photobucket now because I'm limited to the company network being that I'm currently 5 time zones ahead of eastern. I'll find the thread somewhere around here and PM it to you SSgt..
