Well, we all know the subs in our trucks suck. I have decided to upgrade my sub/amp setup, but I need some advise.

I would like to keep the stock look of the truck, so I pulled out the old sub box and its fairly shallow. I think somewhere around 5 inches deep. With some cutting, it could be up to 6.5 inches deep. Does anyone have experience with the shallow or short subs that are on the market. I believe most of the traditional component subs on the market are around 7 inches deep. Anyone with experience in this area that can give me some advise.

Second issue is with the sub. I am planning on getting an Alpine 500w mono amp. It has a line level input as well as a preamp input. It would be significantly easier to use the line level input directly from the factory sub wiring, but will that affect the sound quality? I have a feeling it could be a hassle to bypass the amp to use the preamp inputs. Any help here?

Finally, anyone know of a good/easy power switched source. I know I can go to the back of the head unit to find the power on wire (blue or something like that), but is there an easier way? Is there a switched source anywhere near the sub location?

Thanks for any help you can give.

although i just checked and they are only 13 in...if it would fit you should be fine...all i know is i tried some of the kicker cvt's..and they sounded like doodoo

I was able to gut out my factory sub box and put in a jl audio 10w3v2. Sounds great

There's a couple of things I want to look at on your truck, once we're in Panama.

i want to see your truck santeen as well as Da chief's...I'm actually on orders to va Da Chief so we'll see.....And Santeen i wouldn't mind hitting the track up with you and anyone else but are there any running or g2g before march 2011?

splice in to old amp input wires dont splice in behind hu you will always have sound coming through.radio shack has male jack ends.

That was my initial thought that bypassing the sub amp would be better.

I just found some amps with speaker level inputs that have signal switching, so I wouldn't even have to find a switched power source, the amp would automatically come on when it sensed the signal. That would be very easy to install since I don't have to pull the head unit. The only problem with this is I would have to patch into signal cables after the infinity amp. Not ideal, but certainly easiest.

Anyone out there have an amp hooked up after the factory sub that can tell me if it sound good or sounds like radio shack quality?

Stinks always got something going on. I'm sure he'll have something else planned after Panama
