Subwoofer upgrade?

I know its been covered before but the search function sux and since nobody is using the old site, I doubt the new site has much in the archives.
ANYWAY, my sub bottoms out pretty easily. Even when the volume isnt that high, I cant turn it up anymore caue the sub starts to sound like crap. Anyone upgrade the sub, while keeping the box? Amp options? Don't really trust anyplace for audio installs either. O yeah, since I have the Navi, I dont want to change the head unit. So there goes more complication. Input line converters:dontknow: , Havent had good luck with them in the past. Let me know what u guys think.

hey i have a w710 in my reg cab but it takes up a lot of space it hits hard but i want it louder i am also lookin for better small enclosure subs but for the head unit jl offers a amp the works as a headunit thru your stock head unit so you will never have to change your nav system heres the link for ya if you wanted to check it out

That's a pretty impressive piece of equipment. But for me its too late. I did the whole sub-delete thing to make way for two JL Audio 12's. I also deleted the factory nav for an ////ALPINE nav system. I was still able to retain my steering wheel audio controls with a device from SWIX.

You can probably keep the speaker if you stuff the box with filler.:listen: I used throwaway fiberglass but you can find some good formaldehyde-free stuff or polyfill for a couple bucks. Fill it up, don't pack it and do something to beef up the foam ring behind the magnet. The sub will be able to pump twice as strong as before without flabbing out.:thrasher: After doing this myself, I found that the grill was the next noise maker.:hmmmm2: So I lined it with a small bead of RTV at the seam between the black and silver part.roud:

the RC sound system sounds like crap as compared the the QC. i don't know if it's because the QC has more speakers, or a better sub box.

I think it has a bit to do with cab size. In the RC the stereo is fighting the very small volume of air in the cab. Roll the windows down and the sound (attempting to avoid the pun) opens up. The QC has a much larger cusion of air to work with, therefore higher SPL and better sound.

My sugestion is pull the sub out and replace it with a NITROUS bottle improves the sound drasticly..

You might want to experiment with this. Generally, fiberglass makes the sub 'think' it's in a SMALLER box than it is. Polyfil makes the sub 'think' it's in a BIGGER box than it is. The density of the material affects how air moves around in the box. Ideally, you always want to match a sub as closely as possible to its recommended air volume, but you can do decent tuning with these tricks. But fiberglass and polyfill don't have the same affect, so try it both ways.

also apline has this new lat sub system that has a build in amp ,it only runs on 250 watts and from what my local custom stero shop tells me they are ridiculous. them make them for trucks and suv's

this is what they said would be a cure all for bass lovers the next step would be to have a cut thru into the bed and i dont think i would be down with that because many ppl have said they leak over time also boston acoustics has great subs that only take up 1 cubic foot so you can have about 4 back there. just some ideas for ya reg cabs guys

I tried some polyfill. Couldn't really tell a difference other than my speaker grill rattles. I have also heard you have to have the same ohm speaker or you could blow your amp.

I did the poly fill and mine definitely sounds better. :dontknow:
