As a volunteer fire department, we are mainly supported by the community. Whether they give donations or graciously participate in our fund raisers we have about twice a year, the community helps us tremendously. Some of the members on our dept. came up with a way to give back. We advertised that we were taking school supply donations and/or money to help needy children have what they need to start the new school year. We collected items/money for about 2 weeks. This was the first year and hope to make it an annual event. Between the money and supplies we collected about $3000.00 worth including 169 new backpacks. The elementary school teachers made a list of what students need what in their classes. Here are some photos of us taking the supplies from the fire station to the school. Just one part of serving the community that makes you feel good when see a less fortunate kid with a new backpack.
