As the title suggest I am looking on doing a self installed home alarm system on my house. I do not want anything elaborate, just want to know if/when someone enters the house (windows/doors ect).

The house is a stick house and was built in 2001. It is not prewired so I am thinking wireless alarm system.

Any suggestions on types of alarms to get or avoid?

Thanks

I am thinking wireless. I know I would have to to run some wires, which is not a problem, I just dont want to have to run wires to every door and window.

Go wireless. Ebay has many kits available. If you decide to go wired. Get a local alarm company to come in and do it. They're use to fishing the wires through the house with minimal damage. You don't need to sensor each door if you go motion sensors. If you have pets I think they have special sensors that don't sweep the floor.

I knew you would answer in some form or another. I agree with that. But in the middle of the night in the bedroom across the house I wouldn't hear them coming in. Kids are on that side of the house which is my biggest concern.

BTW... I was looking forward to your answer ;)

Just put pressure sensors all around the parameter of the house , you will know before they get to the windows or doors:D

That is Kool, but taking out the neighbors at the same time, Hmmmmmmmmmmm
Using a shotty in the crib is like using a 72 cal. rifle, not enough distance for the pattern to open up.

Buy them wireless window sensor's. And maybe a guard dog, Thats what i have 4 dogs And no one comes in my yard. And a glock 36 next to the bed for good measure
