Hey guys, recently I have acquired a 2004/2005 V10 out of a viper. I own a 2005 Ram Rumble bee. I'm considering swapping this motor in so long as the transmission is a direct bolt on application. I figure I'd need the harness, and possibly an ECU / Reflash, maybe a few other little odds and ends for it to fit, but If I have to buy a transmission I'd rather hold onto the motor for another project, maybe an old challenger / cuda to drop it into. If anyone has any info please let me know, thanks.

Contact rare03srt10 on this forum. You are in way over your head!

Your tranny will NOT bolt to the Viper engine. You will need to mate it to the Viper T56 or go thru all the measuring to adapt your tranny to it with custom converter, adapter plate, etc.
Then the Viper engine will blow your tranny:(

Better use it as a project or make your Bee a 6 speed.:eating:

Well instead of going through the trouble to adapt my transmission I'd just pick up a 48RE. I was afraid that it wouldn't bolt up, but it's not that big of an obstacle considering what I'm paying for my motor. I also have exclusive access to a dodge dealership, which doesn't hurt. I still may have to just find another project, or sell the motor to further fund my other projects.

After seeing what rare03 went through, if I was you I'd take what you have and build a sweet rat rod around it instead.

I mean I'd honestly try to build something else I could daily drive if I kept it. I have a 1970 Chevelle SS for the weekends and a 1970 Corvette project. I DD my rumble bee as it is so I'd build something I could switch off with that. I really can't think of one other car I'd want to drop this thing into besides the bee though.

Just out of curiosity how much would one of these fetch? It's a long block minus intake/TB/ Fuel rail.

How many miles are on it? And I'm assuming it's the block for an auto?

I'm really not sure how many miles are on the motor I'm going to have to ask the guy I'm getting it from. It can't be very many though. I'm going to assume it's out of a 6 speed though. I'm guessing this makes a difference? I'm really just a chevy guy, I assume everything fits everything lol.

Just bought a rebuilt 05 with throttle body intake ac pump alternator pulleys every thing for $4000

So from what I've gathered, the swap would need

- 48RE automatic transmission / torqure converter (not sure if this needs a computer also?)
- Viper ram wiring harness
- Viper ram ECU or a reflash / programming of my ECU
- At least a different cooling fan, I'd try to get away with my original radiator
-Custom drive shaft? From what I've read on one website the only automatics were the QC's and I have a regular bed, I'm assuming my hemi drive shaft is not the right length (5 speed vs 4 speed auto bound to be a shorter trans going in) and the regular cab 6 speed is going to be to short (just a guess)
-Then I have to consult the hemi guys on what they do to reinforce there chassis, because apparently the viper trucks use the same diesel chassis which is a lot stronger, and issues arise with the Hemi when you throw over 500HP at that platform.

and all of that is assuming that this is an automatic block, because if it's not and you guys say there is an inhibiting issue with bolting anything but a manual to it than the whole thing is a bust, unless I start cutting up my floor and going 6 speed. In which case I've seen a few t56's for ram trucks on ebay rebuilt for about 4500. I haven't decided how much I'd dump into this truck, but a $4500 trans is out of the budget for this truck.

This doesn't mean tomorrow I won't decide to pull the trigger on this, it just means there are a lot more obstacles than I was hoping for.

There is more to it than that. The BCM won't talk to the PCM. The dash wiring harness will not talk to a non-native PCM. Etc. Etc. Etc. You are going to need every control module and wiring harness on the truck to make this work, including an SRT dash. Bolting the engine into the chassis is the easiest part of the swap.

Compatibility across platforms is one of the areas where GM is worlds better than Mopar. Wish it wasn't that way, but it is.

pshhh yea, this swaps not happening. If i had a wrecked SRT-10 Ram infront of me this would be a walk in the park, but that's not the case. What are these guys doing to get these things into classic cars? just using the ECU / harness and custom rigging up gauges? or doing something else stand alone?

And yea, whats messed up is If i wanted to take an LS9 and bolt it into an Escalade all I'd really need is a reflash.

A standalone harness would probably be the quickest, easiest, cheapest way to make that happen. There is an 8 second truck on this forum that went that exact route.

Yea but in my state I'd have to do that to something pre 1996 for emissions. Otherwise that'd be an option for my bee. If It wasn't a numbered truck I'd sell the original engine/trans to offset the cost, but I won't completely part the two , to much of a purist lol.
