Mr. Pickens is the Founder/Chairman of BP Capital Management and Mesa Petroleum. He has a plan for reducing foreign oil consumption in this county, and I think it's a good one.

http://www.pickensplan.com/ (Check out the video at the top of the page) Then poke around the website... lots of good info/ideas.

What do you think?

He is the first of soon to be many. No way the oil tycoons can think their product will last forever.

And he did not even include thermal...

The astonishing percentages in my mind...with 4% of the would population we use 25% of the oil...

i was thinking if there was ever a way to harness the power of lightening, we would be set for a lifetime.

This is true, but keep in mind that we have been responsible for 75% of the world's progress. (I just made that number up, could be more or less, though I doubt it is less) Consumption and progress are deeply intertwined.

Think about it, consumption drives innovation and it vice versa. The ironic thing is without our appetite for energy we wouldn't even be exploring these alternatives. And the really cool thing is all the other things that will be discovered by accident along the way. Think of all the unintended but life changing innovations that we received from the space program. We may well be headed towards another period of progress just like that. At least I like to think so.

The problem is that the environmentalists are responsible for stifling a huge percentage of innovation on this planet..... We should take most of them out an shoot 'em for perpetrating this immense, horseshit hoax on the people of the world....They have nothing more to offer than Al Gore....

In Carlsbad, Ca. a company named Posiedon is attempting to solve the California water shortage by creating a desalination plant to provide drinking water to hundreds of thousands of home here.... Their biggest opponent is the pinko whack jobs at the California Coastal Commission..... another organization of socialist idiots.....

I love clean air and water. I love the creatures, the Earth and the magnificence of all Creation... But, all these folks wanna do is take some water out'a the fkn ocean and remove the salt so's we can drink it.....

This shit is out of control..........

Shoot Al Gore.....! I'll provide the ammo........... Then we can go after all the rest of the hippies who never grew up and shoot them, too.......:argh:

Sorry.......... ;)

Maybe Dr. Frankenstein can help? :dontknow: :D

Actually, the first thing I thought when I found this was: "Sure, this guy wants wind power... he's building the WORLD'S LARGEST wind farm (effectively DOUBLING the output of power produced by wind)! He'll make BILLIONS!" .... But you know what.... Who gives a shit. :dontknow:  If ol' T.B.'s ideas can help get us outta this MESS, he can have all the money he wants.

I like wind power, because it really has no "foot-print". Power companies can rent land from farmers and it has no impact on the farming operation. They can raise crops/livestock just like these turbines weren't even there. The farmers make good money, we get good clean power, and no natural resources are used up! It's almost a completely passive process. :congrats: If 20% of all the farmland in the Mid-West had wind farms implemented on them, we wouldn't even need nuclear.... at least not for another 50 years or so. :) And all the economy-stricken farming/rural communities could thrive.

I know this sounds fkn stoopid and perhaps scientifically naive, but I've always thought that if we could harness power from the Earth's most constant sources of energy, we'd put an end to the fuel crisis once and for all....

What about the heat at the Earths core....? What about gravity, ocean tides, the effect of the moon and the rotation of the Earth itself.... These are all constants. Why can't some incredibly smart scientists, engineers and geniuses in physics and thermodynamics come up with a way to harness these kinds of energy instead of stuff that gets used up.....?

I have a feeling that there are inexhaustable (and safe) energy sources available on this planet that would make us completely self sufficient without the need to be subserviant to other nations for sustenance.

Those volcanos all over the world contain a shitload of energy.... if we could just capture some of it...........

That's a great point, Timmy... I think the problem is not brain-power. It's greed and the monetary system. Building any kind of machine or process like that would (mysteriously) cost LOTS and LOTS of money. :dontknow: And it would have to be done in complete secrecy, because the richest companies (the oil companies) would most certainly sabotage it. They would be outta business. :dontknow:  Greed and Money.... destroying civilizations since the beginning of time. ;)

Now, if we all took a Star Trek approach to money.... :D  :p

I hear Rush Limbaugh just got a fat payday $400,000,000... Maybe he'd kick in a coupl'a bucks......:dontknow:

Well, maybe not............;)

probably close to half of the world is not industrialized in the way we are. And are probably happy not to be..................................

Everybody doesn't have to be equal or the same.

I like the plan, now try to get people to allow wind farms..........................

That shouldn't be a problem, as long as the power companies don't get greedy.... wait... yep, could be an issue. :puke:

I looked into wind power during my previous occupation.

The problem with wind power is that it isn't constant which makes it difficult to be put on current power grids.

High initial cost of the purchace of a wind farm and the other problem that becomes a factor is in colder climates where it takes power from the grid to keep ice off the props.

I don't believe there is one solution to reduce our dependency to oil but with a combination of ideas will make great advances to reducing usage.

The main goal should be reducing excess waste and reusing it in a positive manner. Towards the end of my occupation, there was a gentleman looking at bringing up a technology process from California that would compress straw and plastic (ie. shopping bags) into pellets.

These pellets have a higher burn rate then coal and burned in an incinerator produced zero emissions.

This is just an example but the options are limitless as long as we are open minded to take advantage of them.

Wind Power is the way of the future... at least for land/water based electric energy production. My father works for a wind power company (Clipper Wind), and so does another member here... DevilDog02.

Yet, they too have to contend with the greenie-tree-birdie wienies also....they dont want you to burn oil or gas for energy and yes.. I can see their reasonings, so we come up with a renewable energy source (wind power), and the beeotch and moan about that also... afraid that some brain dead bird or bug is going to fly into the blades of these things....

I think that most of these enviro-pinko-whackos would rather have us all go back to the stone age... I would love to see them survive without their microwave oven, bottled water, etc.. they would be the first to fold...:dontknow:
