I agree with that statement to a certain level... but its all about location, location, location... before a wind farm is put in place, years of study are completed on that area...
 
Texas is going to be the leading producer of wind energy by the end of the year. The amount of "green" projects around here is incrediable. They are building a sky scraper down town, with wind turbines on it that will produce between 30-50% of the power durring peak hours and will actually put power back into the grid durring night hours... The company that in located next to us build windmills for south east texas, on blade on these things are like 10 stories tall... not you average windmills...

Thats probably a clipper unit.. they currently have the largest turbines available... I beleive my father mentioned that one blade is 151 feet long!!! freeking huge... and the towers are 280 feet tall.

The guy who owns/runs clipper from what I understand is working on something with the ocean tides.... dont know more that about it..
 
They just installed 60+ of the large wind turbines within 5 miles of my house. I love them. Another company wanted to add another 100+ units but was turned down by the county commisioners.
I have a question about Hybrid cars/trucks. The batteries discharge in a few miles say around 40. Then the gas engine has to kick in. Why couldn't a small windmill generator be added to a car that would use the rushing air around the car while driving to be used to supplement the batteries getting charged furthering electric motor distance.? I was thinking of putting a small decorative garden windmill in the back of my SRT 10 and then putting some Hybrid decals all over it. Should get a good laugh.
 
You know I was wondering how on earth can they make totally synthetic oil yet can't make synthetic gas? Can someone please explain that to me? I think Pinkens has a great idea, I like it!

Sounds like a good start but I would have liked to see a more comprehensive approach that included thermal and solar. One thing the US has going for us is that we also have a great land mass that get's tons of sun too. I read this in paper, but this internet article is ok.

There is not going to be a magic bullet, we need to invest and challenge our current and future scientists to come up with innovative solutions.
