tail lights

I painted mine with a product made by NHT called Night Shade really easy to do.
I am worried that it would not be even over the whole tail light. Did you have any problems like this?

I am not a very good painter :(

Those tail-lights are the SHIT, Bro!

I like the headlights too..... BUT, I would take them apart and black-out that crap (ricer loooking, LED) stuff at the bottom. :dontknow:  ...... But, that's just me. :D

Yep.... :)

There is a heating process involved (like putting them in the oven).... Let me see if I can find a suitable process on the net to post. I don't want to give you false info. :burnout:

I am very interested also Jake! Thanks for looking for us!

Well gents..... I've looked around (my old diesel forum had some hints).... But, I also read that the Dodge headlights have a different type of epoxy holding the case together. :dontknow: If you try to heat them in the oven, you can't get them to separate without melting the (plastic) light case. :(

Long story, short- They said to use a dremel tool and cut around the housing, where the clear piece and back piece join together..... Then, when your done, seal the two back together with epoxy or silicone. :)

Oh, and if your painting the inside of them black (or, red... pink... whatever), you NEED to tape off the "reflector" part of the inside. This is the chrome surface that reflects light onto the road. Otherwise, your lights will be useless. ;)

Hope this helps.

definitely interested in tips on how to do this

how many coats
time between coats
how many cans for 2 tail lights
anything else a retard like me may screw up due to lack of intelligence!

Thanks,

Paul

honestly i couldn't tell you how many coats. It's one of those things that you do by looking....When it's dark enough to you....Wal lah it's almost done.....Now as far as between coats: My best advice is to do it all in the direct sunlight making sure there is not much in the air such as dust or dirt, you will be able to tell when it has dried...usually taking between 15 to 30 minutes pending on temp outside...My personal truck i used probably 1 1/2 cans........NOW for the important stuff...
1. Take about 1000 grit sand paper with soap and water and sand each light till it turns foggy( be able to tell when it's dry)
2. Then take 1500 grit sand paper and repeat process, try to make it even as possible....
3. Wash off lights with regular tap water
4. Dry off lights with clean rag or paper towel...
5. Let sit in sun and warm up, also the can too....
6. Spray coats till happy remember to let dry inbetween
7. After it has dried it will look alittle flat, so get some clear coat and spray 1 coat of it as well, but be careful, i usually have to spay the clear coat pretty close to get a good coat on there i would say under 8 or 9" away....
8. Then let dry and you should be done...

Reminder: I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND practicing this first before testing on your truck lights....I did this many times before actually charging for this....
-----------AND AS ALWAYS GOOD LUCK---------

Mine were done by a place here in Michigan call "U-paint it". I believe for all three it is about $150.00. They were done 2 years ago and still look like new.

Note for next winter: Pull rear lenses and third brake light cover and send to x-metal for smoking! Begood has great looking smoked lenses, but Gary needs the cash flow!
