So I noticed a strange noise yesterday while sitting in the drive way and it's been bugging me all day till I got off. I was so worried it was valvetrain but I couldn't pin point it just looking under the hood. Got home started poking around and low and behold it sounds like it is coming from the tensioner arm. Is it normal for it to bounce around pretty actively? Not side to side but vertically. There's no rhythm to it and it only does it at idle

Remove the belt and check the infamous Harmonic balancer bolt! you may have to remove the bottom pulley to get at it properly. the bolt has to be bottomed out. It is probably wobbling!!! get it tight before it screws up the end of the crankshaft.:)

I may have to check it.... I thought that was only on the '04s

The balancer on all gen 3 viper engines are pressed on. not much interference fit. they all can come loose and walk off. Always a good idea to check it. If it turns out to be loose, remove the bolt and use some blue locktight
