the 2/4 drop is it good?

Hey guys as most of you know im pretty new to this srt-10 thing. I have never lowered a truck and there is a 2/4 xmetal kit for sale and i am interested in buying it. Tommorrow I think i am ordering caltracs, justins stage 2, and a B&M shifter. To top off my spending for a while i want to know if this kit would be a good buy.

1. Will it effect my driveability?
2. Will it increase performance?
are there any pros/cons i should know about before buying it.

It's all personal preference. My advice would be:

Get Stinker's 2 inch blocks for the rear. Then put QA1 shocks all the way around, and see how you like it.

Dude if you order Caltracs you need to let them know you have a dropped truck. As far as I understand it, there is a difference. I didnt know x metal had a 2/4 drop for RC's? That would be too much (I think).

i did order caltracs, but the ride is stock. It was just something iam lookin into. a buddy said the groundforce kit might be a good idea to look into also.

I think the ground force kit is being used by some people here. They might weigh in on this. The Xmetal kit is good..Used to be the kit of choice..There have been some with issues using either one. You might want to look at JMB and send a PM to Stinker..Also Texas Yellow Fever (I think) sells the blocks for the rear. Alot of it is personal preference I would think. 2/4 might be a tad too much IMO.
do a search on any of the kits..There has been alot of discussion about all of them.

2" blocks? Is that simular to the drop shackles? or totally different? And do "the blocks" drop a full 2"? cause some trucks seem to vary on the drop distance with the shackles? seems like an average of 1.5" drop with shackles.

the blocks will only work on RC's, the spring on them is under the axle , so placing a block under the axle lowers the truck

the shackles reduce the distance that the spring supports the rear of the QC, thus lowering the rear. and yes they all act differntly as far as QC's go, but most of the time it is around 1.5 inches, jsut enough to almost make it level

I did and they don't work. On the RC the shackle will hit the frame. Go with blocks.

Two inches down in the front is pretty radical. Be very careful what you decide on...I have 1.5 and some have 1 inch...down in the front.

1 inch is a lot of drop...doesn't sound like it but 1/2 inch increments are very noticeable. You will probably have to do a little lengthening of your adjustment slots to get the alignment just right...some do and some don't.

man that looks good. did it improve handling when you did it? how bout ride quality?

I read your sig and I think i see caltracs infront of the rear tires right? how close are they to the ground?

Ride quality improved. Not as much bounce in the front end. I was lucky, did not need realignment at all.

The rear attachment of the caltracs is the lowest point...about 4 inches...

If you plan on going to forced induction, the caltracs are mandatory or some opt for a four-link.

The lowered truck is much more pleasant to drive from a comfort standpoint. The looks are a personal thing...but be very careful about going down a full two inches...that will really be slammed!

There are a few trucks that have used bags...but it is a huge job and I have not heard many reviews to date.

Good luck...there are lots of experts on this site...not me by any means...you should see Begood's front end...he only dropped his about 1 inch and it looks great!

i'm modifying one that i got from a member here to level my truck side to side by a 1/2", how much shorter were your shackles compared to the stock ones ?

I can't help you. I sold them to another member for his QC. I could give the the measurement for the stock shackle but you already know that. The best way for you to level out a side to side situation is to get one block bigger than the other.
