The "Pirrelli" issue

THe vibration problems that most people experience with the stock tires is due to flat spotting that occurs after the vehicle has been parked for a while. Hot temps. make it more pronounced. To get the speed rating on these tires an overlay belt is built into the tire to keep the tire from growing under high speeds. THese belts are on top of the radial cables and steel belts in the tire casing. THe overlay belts may be made of nylon, rayon, kevlar or other types of material. WHen the truck is parked a flat spot develops and causes the vibration. As the tire warms up the flat spot will go away. Before radial tires were used all tires were bias ply and mostly made out of nylon. THese tires all flat spotted when parked. People back then knew this and just drove the car for a while before they expected a good ride.

That certainly could explain it for me. Mine shakes at 70, not under or over, seems to be be right about 70. My truck is also parked a lot in my garage. I havnt driven it this week at all, so flat spotting the tires could explain my problem.

MY pirellis are up to 27k..i've rotated every oil change(front to back) and stil have about 2mm from the wear bar...I've not noticed any issues really, if the price is right i'll do pirellis again for my next set which will be soon...

me too.......;)

If you are getting a vibration around 70 it is probably a tire balance issue. TIres have harmonic balance issues at 3 different speeds. They are around 35,70 and 105 mph. Computer balancers take this into account as well as a static balnce. If the vibration comes through the steering wheel your problem is in the front tires. If you feel it in the seat of your pants it is porbably in the rear tires. Have the tires rebalanced and that should take care of the 70 mph vibration. THere are a lot of trick to mounting and balancing a set of HP tires. Usuallly most tire stores do not take the time to install and balance them right.

Nice to see this thread. I just drove 238 miles in the rain last night after buying my truck. I was on I35 and most of it is under construction south of Dallas. I almost shat myself a few times when I couldnt see and had a concrete wall next to me. I noticed that the truck tends to bounce not virbrate. I thought this had to due with the suspension not the tires. A few times I got that slippery ass feeling and had to slow down. I had that on my motorcycle a few times and its not a good feeling.

Rain and freeways dont mix well with the 10 truck. My RC bounces all over the freaking place and we dont have high speed freeways here.....just bad roads. As some of the others guys have said using the cruise control in the rain is kinda scary. You might want to stay away from that.

Well,I have to say that like a few others I didn't have any problem with my Pirellis !!!Knock on wood !They do kind of remind me of the old Bias Ply Tires that flat spot untill they warm up though.I got about 26k out of mine, still had a few more on them too !!I went with Nitto's this time,to try and get a bit more mileage outa them !!!

I haven't had any problems really. I had some wheel hop and some vibration for about the first month I had the truck.

I've driven in the rain once and it was a bit nerve racking. It was a surprise shower. I don't take this truck out in the rain. Why anybody would beats me. Trucks in general don't do well in the rain and now you want to blame it on the tires?
