We made it back out to Kauai the other day, after having to abandon our first trip for a family emergency. So far, the weather was better back home, but the view wasn't nearly as nice.

We're on the west side of the island where we get the trade winds blowing all day 10-15mph, and you can get a serious deluge periodically. We've had to shut the place up to keep the condo from flooding, and we're on the top floor!
Fortunately the rest of the time has been the usual paradise. Had some interesting birds hanging out with me at the table on the lanai this morning, hopping over to the table and snacking on bits I'd toss on the table. Very peaceful. Not so peaceful is the fact that someone's chicken farm was damaged in a storm a year or so ago, and their chickens got out. Now they're all over the damned island, and replicating FAST! It's decidedly non-tropical to see them, and hear the roosters crowing at o'dark thirty (and a lot of the day as well). Somehow, these non-indigenous birds are a species that is endangered and protected. Considering their numbers on this island, I don't see how they could reasonably be considered endangered any more with this many of them running around!
On the truck front, I opted to have a local shop handle the DTS axle swap while I was away. Then I figured what the hell, and loaded it up with a bunch of other stuff that I could have them do. They'll also be doing the roll cage, window net, chute, racing seat, and harness from Big Nana, mounting the drag slicks and installing the bead lock screws, drive shaft safety loop, Cal-tracs, drilled/slotted front rotors and low-dust pads, Stinker's SS brake lines and 2/3 drop kit, QA1 adjustable shocks, Hellwig rear sway bar, adjustable end links, and the 1000 mile break-in oil change. Should be a very different truck when I return!
When I get back, I'll be setting up a date with John Reed (the guy who pioneered the AEM adaptation for GENIII engines) for dyno tuning. Then I'll FINALLY be ready to get to the track and start working with the truck to turn some numbers!
Now, back to vacation....
