Thinking about getting a new Sony TV

I have a Panasonic plasma and a Sony as well. I love the Panasonic. I bought the Sony for a good price and I know they are reliable but the picture quality is not as good as it should be. By the way, no burn in on my plasma after 3 years and a lot of operating hours.

OK here is what is driving the issue...Christine thinks we need to fill the available space in the media cabinet...the opening measures 64 x 35...

So that is what was driving my desire for a 55" Sony...it would fit nicely...but now I have a lot of options to sift through...more work for my feeble mind!

She has two...one superstar, one worthless POS...she would agree.

Here is my setup, I have a closet behind the plasma so I put all the electronics / surround sound stuff in there and covered the cutout in the wall with a tinted plastic cover, works awesome and my boys can't touch anything:rock:

Hi Prof! Told you with a new command center you want more toys to command!! Have to agree w/Christine tho, you need to fillup that empty space! Again, spend the money on upper-end components, cuz even at your "age" you are goin to have it for quite some time(just kiddin)! Enjoy the search, you wont be disappointed.

Prof the best thing to do is drop by a few electronics stores and check a few out.

pick the one you like the best and has the best looking pic for you.

i dont think it will matter if you get the latest greatest or not, since in that category new models pop out every couple months, so dont get caught up in the latest hype, jsut get a good model with a good review for durability of picture quality

Honestly, it doesn't matter. Stay with a good BRAND name and try to compare on the spot. The differences are amazing when they are side by side and the technology is always changing.

Famous last words...

I bought a 52 inch Samsung 750 series, for all the reasons already mentioned here. Pioneer is getting out of the Plasma market. Even though Plasma had a slight edge on quality the LCD's have taken over the market. They don't have the glare because they have a soft screen like a laptop, Plasma has a hard glass screen, and as mentioned, could have burn in problems. Since so many stations now insist on having their logo on the screen it could be a problem over time. Just make sure you get the 120Hz version. And if you go Samsung get at least the 750 or 850 series. Don't let anyone talk you into a 650.

Don't know much about the Sony LCD's, but I can attest to their quality in regular TVs. I still have a 27 inch Sony that is 20 years old, and the picture still looks like the day I picked it up. I'm not sure if it's ever even been turned off hehehehe.

I have a 40" Sony Bravia and I love it!!

The good thing is, when it is in your living room.... you can't compare it to anything side-by-side! ;) So.. if it looks good to you and it's the size you want... buy it and don't look back!

prof i tell ya what, i like you, and dont want to see you suffer thru this:argh:

I will save you all the aggrivation and time and just sell you mine:rock:

heck prof I will even come up with Eddie and install it for ya, we installed his and it looks great:rock:
