That was one of the old Grand Prix 500s. They had an explosive power band, twist the throttle and nothing happens for a few seconds then BANG instant horsepower. Only the very best riders in the world could ride them to there true capablities.
Had a stroker Sportster years ago and was showing off...reved and dumped the clutch and the next thing I new my only contact with the nearly vertical bike was my hold on the throttle and my left hand on the gas cap...had to pull really hard on the gas cap to get the throttle off of WOT...got control, but kept on going rather than go back to brag to my friends about the long wheelie because I was shaking so bad I could not have talked.
Sometimes we get great reputations when we were just plain lucky...
