I think that Kris makes the point that on several occasions the perception that John has left is fundamentally a racist point of view.

I prefer to think it is just the communication style that John uses, and not any racial feelings. I would hope that those days and feelings are on the wane. John and I have gone round and round over the way he expresses himself and I have come to the conclusion that it is my desire for clarity and ethical expression that is the problem...and it is my problem not his. There is no law that requires concise statement in this forum, and so I just stew in my own juices.

I never mentioned race nor do I think it is relevant.

I am against the crime itself and race is no more relevant than the fact that the majority of people arrested for shoplifting are young white females(or were back when I was working).

Under your theory we would be guilty of age/gender discrimination. No?:confused:

Again I apologize for my understandably ambiguous post.

Now back on point, below is more or less what I was taught.




Constitutional Republic- A constitutional republic is a state where the head of state and other officials are elected as representatives of the people and must govern according to existing constitutional law that limits the government's power over citizens. There are a number of distinct forms of constitutional republics. In a mixed constitutional republic, executive, legislative, and judicial powers are separated into distinct branches so that no individual or group has absolute power and the power of the majority of the population is checked by only allowing them to elect representatives. The fact that a constitution exists that limits the government's power, makes the state constitutional. That the head(s) of state and other officials are chosen by election, rather than inheriting their positions, and that their decisions are subject to judicial review makes a state republican.-UNITED STATES

Hard to disagree with that...

But I think that education is the way to build a questioning society. In my world encouraging critical thinking is the essence of education...teaching people to think for themselves and critically evaluate the thoughts of others is where freedom is maintained...but if you will look at the issues that arise here, there are very few that take the time to investigate the claims of others...many just buy into the comments without questioning the motives or the stated facts.

Dont get me wrong I am a 100% on education. But it time to start letting the those people do just that. In the middle and elementary shcools the school board tries to dictate what is being taught, which imo is wrong, also these people have no Idea about education and usually tend to lean towards there political ideology. History good bad or indifferent should still be taught not there censored Idea they deem right for everyone. I should look at history and the US has become a bunch of followers instead of leaders. That just leads to give the government more absolute power.

One of the concepts that exist in institutions of higher learning is the philosophy of academic freedom. Most colleges and universities attempt to provide sufficient latitude to the faculty to teach the material they think is most important as long as it is within their area of academic expertise. No one tells me what to teach or how to teach it. The students evaluate my techniques and material.

Additionally it is a primary goal of most colleges and universities to inculcate diversity of opinion in the faculty. We do have more mandates these days than existed in the past...but there is still an atmosphere of freedom and intellectually challenging exchange.
 
and for those that bring up the slavery issue about jefferson, and a fact is he was going to abolish it in the original draft of the contitution,BUT his fellow southern constituites strongly diagreed. The plantation owners did not want to loose there free labor. We can only fathom the Idea of having the intelligence that man had.

Which it should be at that stage of learning. But with children these school districts are not nearly as regulated or checked on at your level, which doesnt make sense since a child does not know anything(but al gore would disagree)where as a young adult going into college has a formed opinoin of the world (although some of the weaker minded can be manipulated). Kinda ass backwards if you ask me. I just think we have allowed the federal government to grow out of control. I dont say that because of democrats and repubs I told you a while ago what I thought of those parties. If our congress is inept and incompetent then we should have a right to dismanlte and re elect. I am not one to give up my natural born right to freedom by giving up liberties on scare tactics. If government wants to take an example of a real government office take a look at the post office. As funny as it sounds in over 200 yrs they are the only government run entity that has run things right. but yet we bitch because stamps are going to be what 47 cents. And since the demand for there service is dropping the are cutting back service not asking for a bailout.

Not with me. At my last house, I finally bought a box at the post office because they lost or misdirected so much of my mail.:mad:

Same thing here at my new house, so I fixed it so that I very rarely have to use the post office but I still get other peoples mail frequently.:mad:

I have gone down and spoken to the post master three times
but as I type this there are two bills addressed to A P Perez,
that came in Thursday, even though there is a damn sign on my box that says,

'If it's not addressed to "JOHN HARGRAVES" it's not mine! :argh: :dontknow:

I am talking about the bigger Picture Super:argh: the idea of there main source of income has only gone up what 45 cents in 200 yrs. Where congress and senate did not get paid and now they talk shit about the CEO's making making money whose not looking into a real mirror. Thats what I am trying to get at not that some of the 10% in society that cant even spell there name can get jobs there:marchmellow:

I agree, and it does not have to be arguing...trying to express opinions and concepts is stimulating to me...not much stimulates me these days...but good ideas well supported...whether I agree with them or not, make for good reading, and mental exercise!

I have a pretty good understanding of what a Republic is and what a Democracy is. I just don't have the patience anymore to belabor the point I was trying to make...sorry if I come off as ignorant.:eek:

I respect that you served our Country. (But how can you say that we should take back the Country and support spilling the blood of Patriots and what not if you have done this...I can't remember who it was that posted that quote but I found it offensive. Mostly because I could be one of those Patriots.:dontknow: )

John, I don't base intelligence off of IQ's and Patents. I have never taken an IQ test, never had time to develop something that requires a Patent and definitely never claimed to be the most intellectually intelligent person in this world. But through my life, work and personal experiences developed a keen sense of being able to outwit the most intelligent beings to continue to survive in a demanding environment and succeed. ;) I would have to prove my intelligence through experience, but, I don't think I need to. That would be egotistical and annoying....:p

I also apologize for becoming upset at something so trivial also....and accept your apology as well. However, I don't think you needed to apologize to everyone. It was you and I in an argument. Wasn't the end of the world!;) Not like I am going to hop in a P-3 and fly over to Georgia to punch you in the eye or anything, quite the opposite. Just wanted to vent.:D
