Thought I would share some pics that I just found

I just found these pictures from way back in the day when I was in the Navy. I scanned them in and thought I would share them with you all.

These are pictures taken from the flight station of a P-3C UIII Aircraft. They are all of Soviet Ships and submarines. The pictures are unclassified.

This is a Tango Diesel attack submarine

This is the same sub...

This one is a Foxtrot Diesel attack sub

This is a Kilo Diesel attack sub

This is what we call a "Feather". The sub is snorkeling. This is a Victor I Nuke attack sub.

This is an Oscar SSBN Nuclear Ballistic Missile sub

And now a couple of ships.
This first one is a Udaloy DDG Guided Missile Destroyer

Same boat...

This one is a Guided Missile Destroyer, but I can't remember the type right now.

That propellor blade.........was it feathered? Or was your camera that fast? Or was it not a blade?

I take a few pics while flying, and never had a shot of a prop that still.......

While on station the plane is usually flying on 3 engines. So, yes that blade was feathered, engine shut down. (To save fuel) In this case, the plane is flying on 2 engines to further save fuel. Normal 3 engine flying is done with the number 1 engine shutdown, that prop belongs to number 4.

Nah, they didn't care in these pics.

You could tell in the pics where every radar (And associated gun/missile) on the boat was pointed at the plane!! And my equipment was going crazy!!

Looking back at the pictures now, you can get a good feel for just how big the Oscar SSBN is...

Take a look at the Kilo in the 4th picture, see the TTCs? (Teeny Tiny Commies) Now take a look back at the first picture, see the difference in relative size of the TTCs? NOW, take a look at the TTCs in the 7th pic, (the one with the prop in it) there are TTCs in the tower on that boat, but they are so small (relative to the boat) that they are hard to see. That's a big boy!!

You can see TTCs on the Udaloy too, look near the Hangars on the back of the boat.

I once made the mistake of getting on the sub down at Patriots Pointe in Charleston SC. Didn't look that long from the outside but trying to squeeze through the bulkheads it's entire length seemed to take hours. Had to turn sideways to get through some areas. That one was definitely made for little guys.

No Pizza Huts, but these pics were taken close to the straits of Gibraltar which means we were close to Shorty's Fried Rice in Rota, Spain!!
(Not that I would take any TTCs there!)

I imagine submarine duty to you.............would be a living hell...........

My wife is six feet tall, and she ran over everyone behind her trying to get out of that thing...........
