I know there are a bunch of threads already existing about this topic out there. I spent around the past 30 minutes reading about things,,, but thought I would start up my own fresh thread.
Let me start by saying my intent is to simply add some bling to my engine bay. Any horsepower increases would just be a cherry on the top. I am having Justin at JMB making a bunch of dress up parts for me right now. I need a polished TB to make everything "complete"... From what I have read on prior threads,,, this is what I've gathered:
1) X-Metal - Gary doesn't seem to be making these anymore.
2) Roe - There seems to be a possible quality control issue that could have contributed to a members engine failure.
3) Hennessey - no one seems to like these guys,,, plus they're really expen$ive.

What are my other options? Also, any education and input would be appreciated on my above statements....

You can contact Gary (Xmetal) at (812) 453-4862. He will let you know if he has any left to sell.

You should contact Sean at Roe Racing and ask him about your perception of a problem with the TB...I don't think you are correct about a TB causing an engine destruct...(904) 529-1219.

But your assumption that not many of us have any faith in Hennessey is right on.

My TB from Roe Racing has been flawless.

Regarding Roe,,, this is the thread I am talking about:
http://www.vtcoa.com/forums/showthread.php?t=19982&highlight=roe+screw

It does seem like the it was an install error that caused the engine failure with a screw coming off the Roe TB... To be honest, this scares the crap out of me.. I'll call Sean at Roe and get the install instructions.. Everyone says its an incredibly easy install that takes around 30 minutes. However, I remember reading somewhere that you need to prep the TB with sandpaper or something before the install??? Why would we need to do this?

The issue on the throttle body is the screws that hold the flapper need to be Gauled ( proper term?) and loctited so they will not back out. if the screw backed out it was installer error. I believe this procedure needs to be done on any flapper thats secured with screws!

He stripped the threads and the bolt few out.

just to be correct , that issue you can have with either replacement TB... once you need to reuse your TB shaft , you need to unscrew the olds and screw the new blade in... and it are tiny ones, with not alot of thread as they are in half the shaft diameter... Were they are tapered in the stock setup you need to be carefull to get that away so you don't damage the thread already by unscrewing them...

PS i was lucky , mine were not tapered , were even loose ! in the stock TB but did not come out that easy they would ever done it by themselves ..

Great,,, now I'm even more scared to do the install...

There has only been one problem. The instructions are very clear and the mod can be completed in 20 minutes. But any time you have the possibility of ingesting a piece of metal...extra care must be taken. Go for the Roe.

to me the x metal is more polished than roe's they are basically the same unit. ive not had a problem with mine at all except for getting fingerprints all over it and having to polish it out.

Portland its an easy install, the bolts in the stock tb are soft metal, take your time removing them, jsut a lil at a time, back in back out;)

The bolt issue probably shouldnt have happened, locktite or scoring them keeps them from backing out.

I also went to the bolt store and bought some very small allen head bolts to replace the oem ones, because they were so soft.

All the TB's are basically the same, Just with Roe(since Gary doesnt visit) you get tons of great customer service:rock:

Dude if I can do that install, you can do it. I have the x metal one and yes the thought of losing a screw into your engine is frightening..................but you just follow the instructions and use red locktite and it'll be fine.

Stinker do you have Garys TB or the Roe? Mine came with new screws.......didnt they all?

my Xmetal came with new screws... but should check it ... tought it were stainless ones .
As my stock bolts were still perfect ( not tapered ) i reused them with red locktide.

PS don't like stainless bolts... thread can go wrong and stick as hell... ;)

Well,,,, I took the plunge and ordered a ROE throttle body... Gotta admit, I'm still terrified at the thought of trying to install it myself.. I'm having a shop take care of it for me.

One more thing,,, I'm reusing the stock gaskets when I'm swapping the intake manifold and valve covers. Am I ok to reuse the gasket on the throttle body?????

The TB is an O-ring, so no worries with re-use there. I'd be more concerned about re-using intake. The gasket is cheap compared to the labor to get to it! :)

Thanks for your input.. The general consensus I have heard about the stock intake manifold gasket is that it's virtually impossible to damage it during the swap and it's just fine to reuse.. Anyone else out there have a different experience???
