Besides making the trans hold the first 2 gears longer, what is the purpose of a heavier throttle valve spring? I have the heaviest spring of the 3 available supposedly and was thinking about changing it to a lower one because the trans wouldn't shift from 1st to 2nd until 3000rpm and from 2nd to 3rd until 2800rpm no matter what. Very annoying in traffic.

Does it provide any benefit to the trans?

It also has alot to do with varying line pressure on our trucks and set incorrectly by the CABLE, not spring choice, can burn up internals. Play with the adjustment on the cable at the throttle body and I believe towards the firewall will decrease line pressure. Try and drive, adjust and drive again. Rinse lather repeat till you get them where ya want em.
( within reason of your shift kit!) the kit is made to hold gears longer as well as bump line pressure so some is due to the kit.

I was just going to suggest the same. Once you get the motor in, try adjusting the cable Tim. If u dont know how to do it, give me a call and I'll come over and show ya. It's real easy.

So adjusting the cable will change the rpm the trans shifts at under part throttle? How much adjustment is there without hurting the trans? Will it affect full throttle shifts?

i think someone that has knowledge on this should do some type of write up. Id definitly be interested in learnin a thing or two about adjusting that cable. i know how to adjust it id just like more info on how it works.

Yes adjusting it will change part throttle shifts. Don't believe it affects WOT shifts. There is a god range of adjustment without hurting the tranny, but you don't want it holding gears too long, nor shifting too early.
