tie down points for towing

Quickly looked through the owners manual on preferred tie down points for towing on a trailer. didnt see any. Where did/do you guys use for tie down locations on the regular cabs? Any specific locations? Just thinking ahead before taking it to the track at the end of the month.
 
Sorry, not sure. I just use the rear axle the front cross member. Good luck!

On a stock truck I cross strap around the rear sway bar outer points and the rear of the lower control arms in front.

On the silver truck I have dedicated points fabed and welded in to cross strap to.
 
I assume you guys are talking about carrying you trucks on trailers, what in the hell are you pulling them with? :confused:
 
I pulled my RC in an enclosed with my srt qc.

I strapped on the front to the rear of the lower control arm.
Onn the rear use leaf springs, frame or axle will work, but cross the front and rear no matter what, keeps it from going from side to side.

And for petes sake, SPEND some money on the straps!!
Please no body buy any cheap ass straps!

The straps should have at LEAST a 5000lb rating!
and these will usually be 2 or 4 inch straps.

I dont want anyone loosing their ride or damaging it.
 
mine were cheap ass 4000lb straps 3in i think....lol
 
4000lbs aint badLOLOLOL I jsut see alot of those real cheap walmart straps holding things down that they really shouldnt be holdin!:D

me too, i didnt want to cut my bigger ones i use them to haul a tractor on a goose neck trailer
 
the best ones I have seen for hauling a vehicle is the 2 inch straps with the chain and hook on the end, that way they are easier to hook onto the frame.
 
havent seen those the ones i bought were 3 in with hooks, no chains though. you make it back home yet ?
 
I'm using the straps that I towed my Viper with. They're the 3 or 4 inch wide yellow straps with a break strength of 10K I think. I'll use axle straps and cross them in the back and the control arms on the front. You'd think they could put this in the manual. Thanks for all the responses!!

I tow my RC CE all over the country in an enclosed 36' 3axle trailer, here is what I have found to be the best tie down points, only bad thing about this truck in an enclosed trailer is the truck is sooo wide, I have 1/2" on either side of my rims to the fender walls, have to do the duxes of hazard to get in and out, lol.
Under the front there are holes in the frame on the you can grab, this will prevent bending parts (when using axel wraps) due shifting or bouncing while driving, the are located near the A-arm bushings right on the frame. Then for the rear on the frame up a little bit are OE tie down location they work great, make sure you have a rag to put on the exhaust as when you crank down on the straps it will rub the tips.....and just like in Ghostbusters crossing the straps is bad!!!! If one should come loose it will cause things to shift to the side where the tension is. I usually latch the front, release the brake, strap the rear, check the front again then put it in gear and put the brake on. It will shift slightly but never anything more than 1/2" and I usually go a min of 700 miles at a time. I check the tension on the straps every time I stop for diesel, bout every 350-400 miles or so just to be safe. :rock:
 
THanks Infinity, I'll look for the tie down locations. I figured they've got to be there somewhere.
 
I've towed mine 6+ hrs to Boomer a couple of times on a deck over trailer. On the front I run the straps through the wheels going forwards and to the side, not just straight sideways. On the rear I use a chain around the center housing. On an open trailer I like a chain on the back in case I were to hit anything or slam on the brakes real hard. I've had a strap break on my jeep before.

I tow fast, 75-80, and it never shifts an inch. Reguardless of what kind of vehicle I'm hauling I always strap/chain to axles etc rather than the frame or any point that bounces with the suspension. If you do strap to the frame get them as tight as possible so that when the truck bounces while going down the road the straps don't get any slack in them.
