I'm getting ready to take my '06 RC to my local mechanic to take care of the oil change. I plan to bring all of the supplies.. just have him do the work. I've been checking around here to see which oil brand/weight you guys recommend but have found a few different threads mentioning different products. What should I look for? Mobil1 15/50? I'm in Ohio and don't drive it during the winter at all. Also, I need the part # for the recommended oil filer. Perhaps I should contact Dragon? Thanks!

well....i wouldn't put anything other than what it says on your oil cap. if something should happen and dealer sees your using something else, may not be covered under warranty.

Ditto on the Mopar filter...make sure it says "VIPER" on it....this is an updated filter....if it dont say VIPER it is an old design...

10-40 or 15-50 depending on how badly you beat the snot out of it :D
So which one is best for someone that constantly rapes their truck and frightens women and small children??

Dodge calls for 0-40. After seeing the SRT engineers explain why, I would strongly advise staying with it.

Could you expand on your answer a little. What did the engineer say?:dontknow:

A couple of times on forum talks that SRT engineers spoke at the question of oil and viscosity were discussed. The engineers (in my memory) did talk about tolerances, heat, adherence and a whole slew of technical stuff but what stuck in my mind they wouldn't even consider a different viscosity, except for maybe, perhaps going from the 10-30 for earlier Vipers to 0-40 (0-40 wasn't available for the earlier cars). Different brands maybe but not different viscosity.

Ditto

I buy my filters from my dealer..................nothing else but mopar.

If your vehicle is still in warranty then stick with the oil designated on the oil cap. Anything different might in the mind of some dealers void your warranty.

Once you have gone beyond the warranty period, then do a search here on oil and you will learn a lot about why different locations, driving styles and modifications require different oils.

Choosing an oil is like choosing a mistress, different strokes for different strokes.

There have been some issues with filters other than the stock mopar.
