To STRIPE or not to STRIPE...

Ok, so here's my dilemma... I've got a new '06 RC SRT-10 (Black) and I'm thinking about putting on the racing stripes. My previous truck was a '96 Indy Ram (Blue w/white stripes) and I really think the stripes make the truck pop.

If I do it, I'm having them painted. No vinyl for me, thanks...

My questions are:

1. Will putting on the stripes hurt or help the resale value in the future?
2. What color would look best against the black? (I'm leaning towards white... but a pic or two might change my mind!)
3. What kind of HP gain should I expect? <just had to say that>

Ok.. so let's just concentrate on questions #1 and #2. Thanks!

first-dont think that stripes would hurt the resale.second-i think that a blood red would look great.third-you sre sure to pick up at least 25 h.p.

I've been debating this issue since I got the truck.... Everybody keeps telling me they're over done.... which is true enough, but that doesn't mean they dont look good... I want to do SOMETHING with the paint job, even if its stripes, just dont know what. *shrug* very tough call... But IMO, you can't go wrong with them. But I think I could come up with something more unique... maybe.
anyway... Do It! It'll be cool and it shouldn't hurt your value.

Resale value shouldn’t be hurt unless you’re dealing with some jerk that would consider it a visual mod that should have to be put back to stock (i.e. an orange choice won't win points in the KBB). Although we know it's not the same, technically it is.

The color scheme; I’m also leaning toward the red stripes against black.. BUT there is another lucky owner here from TX with blue against black... ummmm, OH Hotrodmike..(and I’m sure he’ll chime in soon). I’m not really digging the white stripes… Too much “in your face” like a penguin. You’ll likely get tired of that choice real quick (silver stripes would look like a dirty penguin).

NOW, the final and important question about gains.. That would count on what color you choose. Wifey would say red (of course). Others would say silver, white or blue (Mr. Holden would suggest yellow). Still SOME may say black stripes, although I don’t see how that color choice would help you. HP gains are critical so chose wisely.

Carefully thinking about it I’d say it’s a toss up between either a dark red or dark blue thereby giving it a ghost stripe effect. Or you can go the ghey way and chose the color of my font... Dark Orchid.:dontknow: 'Tis up to you.

I had a '97 SS/T Black with the silver stripes. I thought that was a great color combination. You could go with a pearl white, metallic silver or some type of camilian (sp?) color stripe that changes color in different light. Had a friend with a bike done in a color that changed from black to burgundy to purple in different lights. That would be different. Depends on if you want to go bold or subtle. If your leaning towards white, think about a pearl white with some color flakes in it so the light refects different colors. Some blue, pink, purple refelctions. It can be done real subtle. From a distance it just looks white until you catch it at the right angle.

I have black stripes just like a CE. They are kind of hard to see on the hood though.

Red stripes on a black truck would look great. And I am not just saying that because mine is being painted right now like that. A silver stripe would also look good, imo.

I have the same truck as you and yesterday i priced some CE green stripes. Im going to do green because its my favorite color and no one has done that yet. Its really just what u think looks good because almost any color will go with black.

My opinion is to be careful how you put on the stripes down the front, I like the stripes from the CE model the best, otherwise when the stripes go all the way down the front, I think it is a little too much striping...the front hood only looks very nice and also looks like it may have been done at the factory (when you want to rsale the truck) rather than someone with a sheet of vinyl and doing it the easy way....my $.02
