Toluene... discuss..

Back when I was involved with Subaru's and the occasional track day or dyno day,,, a lot of us would dump a few gallons of Toluene in our tanks to get us around 110 octane. From what I understood, doing a 80/20 mix,,, toluene mixed with 92 essentially acted as Race Fuel.
It's been years since I tried the stuff but I remember it being around $3-$4 a gallon.
With the price of fuel these days being $4 a gallon for premium and a 10% ethanol mix at pretty much every station,, I'm wondering if this would help.

is that the same as acetone? ive' been adding acetone to my fuel since we had a discussion on here,runs a lot smoother...do a search on ACETONE

Toluene and Acetone are not the same thing.

Toluene is a good octane booster.

Tolune is mixed approx 1 quart to 10-15 gallons of premium pump gas. This will give a 2-4 point increase in octane.

Mixing it any stronger than 1 quart Toluene to 6 gallons of fuel will cause problems.

That's what I here. If snorted in large amounts it can cause dambrainage.....

I haven't snorted or smoked anything in nearly 20 years.

I even wear rubber gloves when adding the acetone to my truck.Any solvent (even gasoline) can readily absorb into the skin and end up in the liver.Be careful !!:nurse:

Where do you buy Toluene from? What is its intended use??

it's an ingredient in paint, and can usually be bought from paint supply stores.

BEWARE-- BTX's,Butene ,Toluene,Xylene are all potent carcinogens. This is baaad stuff.Also octane improvers but just not worth it.

15.36 oz. marvel mistery oil

Awsome fuel for HI-Comp/Forced Induction

I'm pretty sure my fuel system can tolerate that stuff, but what about the stock fuel system components?

I know that 104 unleaded race gas is 10.50 per gallon in Jacksonville, 12.50 per gallon in North Carolina at the track and 8.50 per gallon in gainesville track. I say if you can save on that kind of price... don them rubbers... er.. gloves I mean.

Almost 4yrs running it in my town car (15psi at9.6static comp)w/no issues.
Other than STINKS.


PS I purchase in 55gal drums (cheaper that way)

I regularly flush my liver with a 50-50 mix of JD and low octane diet Pepsi..

Ummm:dontknow: , can you elaborate? 4 oz./gallon maybe, or is this a mix for a batch size, like 10 gallons net?

This could be another alternative to methanol injection.

I made 5gal batches because it works for the 5gal fuel jugs.

4galsTOLUENE + 1gal Mineral spirits + 15.36oz Marvel Mystery oil:burnout:

P.S. Make sure you use 100% pure mineral spirits which is usually just labeled as paint thinner. MSDS sheet will tell.

Plus I also round up to 16oz of the MMO rater than the 15.36oz

I think the octane is 120

5gals TOL mixed with 5gals 93octane=10gals 106.5 octane
