Too much oil

I got my oil changed last thursday so if the drops on my garage floor were from oil that was spilled on the engine/frame/other areas I would've seen it that night but I didn't. I only work 10 miles from my place but I drove almost 300 miles this weekend going out of town, parked it last night and this morning was when I saw spots. Having it towed to the dealership tomorrow morning just to be safe and hope to get a good luck underneath to see if any oil residue is on any part of the truck not nearby the motor or drain plug. I'll let you know what I find out.

Pat, you are the man with the hook-ups!!

Good luck, Bud. Hope it's nothing serious.

I think that the 04 and 05's were 8.5qts, and the 06s are 10. I had heard about the misprint in the 04/05 manuals...

I use 10 my my 06, and my oil level is allways at the safe line.

After spending a couple hrs at the dealership this morning here's what we found. All seals, gaskets are in good shape and not leaking:rock: , initial inspection showed oil leaking from the top of the motor and down onto brake or fuel lines and from there the oil then traveled down those lines. There was some oil residue from the cap on the driver side valve cover that went down the side of the cover and down the motor, possibly the source of it all. Oil level read right at the top of the safe mark on the dipstick. The tech added some UV dye to the oil (lasts about 500miles) to make detecting a leak much easier should there be one and he also said he added 9qts and not 11. A clean bill of health was issued and I will just keep an eye out for anything.

I guess the oil capacity debate continues as the manual misprint says 10qts w/ filter for 06 QC, the tech said he put in 9qts w/ filter and the forum leans toward 8.5qts:dontknow: . I guess each truck is unique in its own special way

Well, it's good to hear that everything is ok. :)

The '06s have a different oil pan, that's why they take more oil (don't ask me where I got this info... It's here on this forum someplace).

But, you did catch them in the act of OVERCHARGING you for the oil change... They said they put in 9qrts and CHARGED you for 11? :dontknow: That's not right! :(

Yeah, the '06s have a different oil pan because they changed the frame from '05?? :dontknow:

I agreed with black1 about charged you for 11 while they use only 9qrts! Thats not right!

This will probably be the last time I go in for an oil change or anything else I can do myself, I just didn't have the time to change the oil before I went out of town this time. Even though I was charged 11qts and not 9, I'm gonna let it go, its only $15. I'm just happy knowing that my truck is ok and I'll be doing my own maintenance from now on. Thanks for all the input fellas!

After reading this post I was thinking that maybe this is what was causing me and Walt the problems with our truck. Hennessey told me to put in 10 quarts in my 05. I didn't just blindly throw in 10 quarts by 9.5 quarts only came half way up the safe line on the dipstick. Still if the pan can't handle that much oil and the turbos are draining into that overfilled pan... maybe that is why the oil is getting backup into them????? feelings ????:dontknow:

You may just get some bad returns on this with the JH history bro, but we'll help out the best way we can.

two things, one I guess it may be possible, but I dont think its probable, I find myself adding extra oil over the stock amount to take up the space of the extra lines and turbos and so on.

second, Is i dont think your turbos have the ceramic bearings, if not they need cool down time, and this even includes jsut going to the store, if not they could be damaged that way.

third your solution if not taken care of this time, may be to go with turbos with the ceramic bearings, call turbodynamics or someone and talk with them about the problem directly, you will probably get better results.

No, It is fixed but I don't want it to happen again. Maybe with the oil level where it is, it is just a time bomb waiting to go off and back up into the turbos.
Hennessey seems to want to wash there hands of it, so Percision Turbo is helping me. But If any of you have any input that would be great.
