Took out rear helper on QC, WTF!!!!!

what about turning the helper upside down ? I recall boomer saying it yield a better ride ?

it's in his installation guide yes but the dealer who's doing my bodywork repair right now is discouraging it. Says the other leafs will wrap if you flip the helper :dontknow:

Anyone with a stinker drop kit might chime in

I have Stinkers drop kit and I flipped the helper spring. You have to flip it if you are installing caltracs or else the helper spring will be touching the bar on the caltracs... I know the traction bars are suppose to help axle wrap. I do not have wheel hop.

With all that said. Flipping the spring isn't going to change the height of the ride.

I removed mine soon after getting the truck and after about 3k mi, the remaining springs had sagged slightly and had assumed somewhat of an S shape. I put the Caltracs on and they seem to have fixed the issue. I suspect if you have a stock flash, it wouldn't be such an issue with the torque managment in place, but without that, the hard launches and 1-2 shifts pretzel the spring without the overload leaf.

exactly you have to remember we dont have hemis;)
anyone doing this you must realize the potential of your truck, on hard launches, the springs will wrap up some and later start to sag jsut a bit,

fixes if you are really worried?

caltracs, the stop the wrap up of the axle.

two , a small air bag set up, relatively cheap, but not bad, cnt remember the price right off, but all you would need to run in them is a a few lbs to give the rear a touch of suppport.

but on my drop floor, it drops the rear so far, that most of the guys want to raise it back up a touch, and thats with the helper and all in. if you can find pics of outnumbereds truck his actually is raised up a touch in the rear, we took some steel stock welded it tot he shackles and raised up the rear a touch

Very true in the video you can see how hard the 10s launch you know those leaf springs wont last long without the over load spring installed.;)

You guys must have some awsome roads around you, shit if you are lowered out here you wil be fixing your front end every year. So many friggen pot holes and plow gouges and thats after paving the summer before then here comes winter again. Helper bags are the shit though I must add.

I guess i forgot to say that i removed the helper spring, love the way it looks, but it is temperary i will be getting stinkers rear flip kit in about a month then will put air bag springs on it so i can haul and tow a little bit, i really hardly ever spin the tires, but i do not have a flash yet either, im getting that this month, i will be asking about the rear flip kit next and how to set that up, thanks you all for the great advice, i learn more on here everyday, you all r a great group of guys!!!

Tony , any news on these long shackles ?

I was about to remove the helper spring until
I decided to read a little. I wanted some input; I tow sometimes no more than 2-4000lbs and have loaded the bed up to 1000+lbs. I have the stage 2 which bangs into second gear and I'm afraid of axle wrap. The input I would like is that obviously the helper spring comes in handy for me in some situations, so what could I use just to get the rear end about 1-1.5" lower without sacraficing anything?

i also want to drop my truck. i am getting drop shackles and now having them extended, but Im flashed and dont want axle wrap. So my question is... would a combo of extendid drop shackles, cutting the springs a 1/2 coil, and making better bump stops be a winning recipe for a nce level dropped truck with no issues? especially if I leave in the helper spring.

No, you dont cut the springs if your doing shackles and overload removal.

Cut the springs for a flip kit, 2/4 drop.

The overload removal is to level the truck, but you may want to cut about 1/8 of a coil to get a slightly lowered front end. Like 1" of spring to start with.

I planned on doing a flip kit as well, leaving the helper spring, and cutting the coils - would that be ok for a flashed QC.... would I still need drop shackles though.

Nope, on a flip kit you have to use lift shackle or else it would be a 7-8" drop in the back. If you are buying a flip kit it will have the shackles. I would buy/make some shock extenders though

So if I'm reading this correctly, the drop shackles from Stinker won't make the truck level. You have to extend them to level out the truck? And by doing this, you can keep the overload spring? I'm really quite confused. I have a QC and would like it to be level without sacrificing ride comfort or launching ability.

if you extend the shackles it will actually raise the truck.

if you remove the overload spring you can add caltracs and take care of the axle wrap
