This really sucks. I had replaced the tranny fluid, so I wanted to also do the diff. fluid as well. Upon removing the bottom drain bolt, I saw what was to be ... a tooth!.... WHOLE! just stuck on the magnet...

Not sure how that happened or if it was already there before I bought it. Can you just replace the ring gear? Not sure what my options are here...

What symptoms would I be getting with a tooth missing? Heh... Not sure I'd know with the rest of the problems I'm feeling with the truck.

I beleive the are matched sets and need to be replaced as such

Did you remove the cover and see the ring gear chipped ??? Its more common for the spiders to be chipped.. If nothing has happend so far DONT DRIVE IT.. remove the cover and inspect the inside if the spiders are cracked and the ring and pinion are fine you can just replace them...

Talk to stinker he can get upgraded cryo'd spiders which are much more durable

edit because im a retard half asleep:p :p :p

you are correct, it comes as a matching set best off send it to a shop and pull the cover see what you will all need.

I was going by the pictures for the Dana Super 60. I haven't pulled the cover off yet. Didn't have the time - weather. But if spider gears are most common, then it very well might be that.

I'll have to make some orders.

Thanks for the help

Okay, now I'm baffled about this little piece of crap here.... maybe it's something else... there is no arch, it's completely straight. And when looking at it as close as I can, I see a line resembling 2 sides joined....

Doesn't look like no tooth to me now.. what's do you see in these pictures?

Hard to say I haventhad one of these apart could be a steel plate for the clutches that broke apart. I have wrecked a few of them in the 9 1/4 diffs.

I think you are right. It looks like one of the tabs broke off!

yank the cover off and put the truck up on some jack stands with the truck in neutral and just roll the tires by hand to check everything up close with your eyes on it.. if your missing a tooth you'll know it lol
