Tow hitch plug

Not that I ever tow anything, mostly because I'm curious, but I was looking and noticed there are two plugs. I know the big one controls signals, reverse, and brakes. But what does the plug that I'm holding do?

That's just lights for trailers with no brakes. Left, right, brake, ground

Smaller trailers typically use the 4 pin connector in your hand, larger trailers with brakes will use the 7 pin round connector.
