Toyota is screwed if this is true...

ive never seen a car that wont let you shift into nuetral, into reverse or park going forward i can see so the tranny wont explode but nuetral

I think I would find the first guard rail I could and start scrapping speed off...I don't know how many people have not been able to shift into neutral...if that is a true finding, then I would have to assume that this is a software problem...



Hmmmmmmm...maybe I should find a long guard rail and get Christine to scrape some speed off...

She still has not noticed the Viper Performance sticker I put on her Prius!!!

i would think it would be a big safety factor too for a vehicle not to be able to shift into nuetral at speed.

It's a CVT trans... no real "neutral".... and you can't shut them off. There are no wires connecting the ignition to the key like a older vehicle. It's all drive-by-wire run by computers.

There is a neutral position on the shifter lever indicator...I will try to put it into neutral the next time I drive it...

It's shift-by-wire... no linkage or cables. If there is a computer issue (which it sounds like there is) it's a possibility it effects the trans as well. As far as I have read on the Prius forum (just now) even the PARKING BRAKE (aka "Emergency Brake") is run by a computer and connected to the trans. Only pre-2004 cars had a mechanical release for the parking brake. 04-Present owners have complained they can't even push the car in "neutral" if the car won't start. Even if they could get it in "neutral" (some say you can hot-wire the solenoid from UNDER the car), they still couldn't push it because the parking brake is still on. :dontknow:

Anyone else read the Car and Driver simulated-sticking-throttle test? With the pedal on the floor, even a GT500 came to a full stop. Just took a few hundred feet.

I believe the big difference is that a large amount of the stopping power of the Prius comes from the electric motors...Like on a Freight train...If the computer is acting up, I would assume the brakes and thottle would have problems...
