So I'm wondering, just what would it take to get to 10 seconds with our trucks... or even 9s
Wouldn't that feel amazing in such a massive machine? Gives me goose bumps. But what would the price tag and part lists be for something like that? Not that I can afford such right now, if ever, but its fun to dream right?
 
If you are looking to get into the low 10's or high 9's you need to address the traction (weight transfer) issue.

There are trucks today that have the potental (by that I mean HP), but lack a method of getting the HP to the ground.
 
With the hp numbers I have , my truck would run low 10's to high 9's IF there was a magical way ti get it to hook up perfectly...just look at a hp conversion calculator at 5700 lbs with 1071rwhp theoretically it would run a 10.17.....
 
yeah, thats the holy grail it seems for at least our trucks.... Do other vehicles have this problem? I'm not involved anywhere else really so I wouldn't know.

I wonder if that calculator factors inertia mathematically or goes by a general average calculated on multiple examples... The actual potential could be higher or lower depending I'd think.

What was the ballpark $ range for ya there Blake? Mighty fine setup, I've been gone mostly from the forums but I poked back in for a couple days when you were still deciding where to go. Where, might I ask, is Dave Graves located?

If I had the money.... I wonder if I'd do it too, or get a RC to play hard with.... but then I'd be tempted to mod it too, that'd be silly. QC should be stick.... I'm kind of rambling, I do that when I'm tired, been up a while lol
 
I could easily put my truck in the low 10's with a different transmission, but it wouldn't be streetable. So it's all a matter of what you want to do. Jack is doing a race truck, it will run a very fast time. How streetable will it be? I'm not sure.

The block will start to twist itself in half if you ran those numbers as well. It's one thing to run 10's in a 3k/lb car, it's a different ballgame when weighing 5800lbs. Once these trucks hook up, your weak link is the block.

If someone were starting from scratch and just wanted to run fast, I would do the following:

Buy a stock RC truck for low 20's. Spend 20 grand rebuilding the motor, 30-35 grand at UnderGround racing for their big AEM/TT kit, 3 grand on a rearend and whatever transmission needs to be used (i'm not familiar with what tranny upgrades are needed with the manual). You'd have a shade less than 100k into the truck. Which is what Blake/NowWhat/Myself have in ours roughly. You'd make more power than any of us. It would take around 6 months to do that.

How fast would it go? I have no idea, but it would be fast.
 
If someone did do that, I wouldn't suggest using the dodge tranny. That diesel is an anchor. The problem with an auto is making it streetable. If you put a real race converter in it, you can't drive it on the street. I believe the RC run about 500lbs lighter, which is why I would start with it regardless. This assumes all you care about is running fast.
 
1. Set up the chassis and Suspension complete with roll cage.
2. Set up rear with 4 link or ladder bars with coil over.
3. Now you can start looking at the running gear. rear, tranny and motor.
4. You can build a 7 second drag car for what it would cost to set up the truck properly!
 
Traction is the biggest problem....1fast was smart by doing therearend cuz Im pushing over 200 more rwhp and running slower because Im spinning until mid track.....It is fun tho!:D

My rearend will be here SOON and well see what happens..
 
Hell my truck will go low 10's easy! As a matter of fact I think I'm ok to about 30 below, which we expect very soon!

Going back to Florida Monday again....

Yeah it can be really hard to rationalize sinking the dough into the engine work when that alone could substantiate the build of a much quicker car. But at the same time, no matter what happens, you've always got that tag of "But damn that’s good for a truck!" And the fact that so few people are aware of their stock power and even fewer intimately knowledgeable about them so its kind of got the sleeper status going on.

At one point I had the money and was about ready to dump 40-50K for the engine work but the audio guys took 5 months longer than they quoted me (quoted me one month… bastards) and then work got in the way, and then money started draining due to various reasons… Then the audio dorks had my truck several more months while they were suposed to be 'fixing' the work they shoulda done right the first time.... *rant rant rant* I let the idea die but I still want to drop a Paxton in there… but I’m sure it won’t end just there lol but I’ll probably sink a little into the 300ZX before I do anything major… Or heaven forbid I actually start saving up again lol

Hopefully with my business plans I won’t have to worry about anything but that’s yet to be told.

In the Airforce, to get a C130 off the ground in a hurry, we would attach Jato rockets to the side of the fuselage which was called a Jato assist. Now if one were to strap them onto our truck, 8's maybe 7's would be possible. Just my .02.:D
