My setup is actually Allot simpler that most of what you Guys are talking about doing. Instead of Hooking up a $400 Compressor assembly, I just Bought a $50 Fire extinguisher Rated for Way over 300 psi, Added a Large Airgauge, And put a Air Adapter on the end of the hose.
It Sits Right behind the Passenger Seat, for easy trigger Access, and the Back of the seat holds it firmly in place so you dont see it, And its Easily removable.
The Reason i say that Mine is the (Somewhat) Superior setup, Is that not only did i save Over $300 this way, i it blows much Louder, and longer, and ill tell you why.
The first thing i did was Remove that Crappy air solenoid, It leaks like crazy constantly, and isnt near big enough for the Volume of air required to really blast a Trainhorn. This is another reason that a Extinguisher tank is superior. The valve on this tank is HUGE, like 1 inch Diameter, And its a Fire extinguisher, So its more than Garenteed to never leak, and It dosnt. The old style like this already have a Tire Valve stem on the side for easy recharging. So it makes fill-ups at a Gas station, or at home a Breeze, A 2 gallon tank provides about 45 seconds of Full Blast, before it starts to Audible fade at about 70 psi. I blow it all the time, and i dont fill up but every-time i wash my truck, about once every 3 weeks.
And for somebody asking about price and Durability, Let me tell you, this is the Third vehicle i have had This set of horns on, with the same tank setup. First it was on top of my Dakota for 6 months, Then UNDER my Bus for Over a Year. under the Bus was a really traitorous Place, it was hit by rocks, Water, Mud, Blood, and everything else i ran over!!! a coat of Polish cleaned them right up. These horns are Damn near Invincible. I bought them off Ebay for $100 New, And dont be fooled and pay something like $300, if you did, than you got Jipped, Because there out there, and there Cheap, Shop around, But ebay is the bast place i have found.
If you have any questions, Shoot me a PM, And i will be happy to Lend any of you Guys some Advice.....
Overall i spent about $160 Total. Including a set of new hoses and Polish this past year...... They Are Awesome, If you Dont have some, You Need them, and the Spare Battery Box makes a GREAT mounting location.
