First of all it is not that kind of tranny, it is the one that is under the truck that I am having problems with.:D It does not shift from 1st to 2nd. It waits until about 4000rpm's and then shifts into 3rd, The shifting has been getting funny lately, from 1st to 2nd it has been acting like it didn't want to until I gave it a little more gas. Then when it did shift it felt like it was slipping, about 4 time, now it don't go into 2nd at all:dontknow: just happened. let me know what you guys think. Thanks in advance, BRAD

Start with the kickdown adjustment...check the fluid level and see what color it is .smell it and see if it smells burnt. Thenadjust bands and service the trans.....and maybe replace the govenor...Check the bottom of the pan and see if there is any metal, clutch residue or anything out of the ordinary.....

Check the other stuff first but it sounds like you lost second gear. it hunts for 2nd until it hits 4k then shifts in to 3rd. with a big clunk right?

Smell the fluid, if its burnt the clutches are hurt.

May be a gov solenoid/psi transducer problem also.

I'd change the fluid, swap the gov sol and get the bands adjusted.

are the clutch packs in these autos shit like in the 97-2002 fords?

my gov solenoid failed twice . after second time it started to slip and then had to replace converter, bands, and plates, now it pulls like a motha !!!!

Checked fluid and it is good. This all happened on the same trip, the slipping and then not shifting until 4000rpm's. Did a little burnout:burnout: , spun through 1st then it hit 2nd, then before it hit 3rd it sounded like it was slipping so I let off. That is when it started to get worse. 1st then no 2nd and then into 3rd at 4000rpm's:dontknow:

Is the govener what we have been changing with the GM swap?

Have not had the bands adjusted yet, the dealler can do that?

On my red truck the tranny began letting go by slipping 2nd gear. I had no problems with shifting though. When it went into 2nd it would just slip and I'd have to get out of the throttle.

The 3 transmissions I've had in the silver truck have all failed when the gear hangs and slips into the next gear. After this happens a few times then it gets to where you have to hold 1st for a long time then shift into D or it will hit 2nd and just rev...

Not saying that you've got a problem like my silver rig, but when it slips in second it's time to take it to the shop.

And if I may recommend someone, talk to Dusty at www.htstransmissions.com. Great guy that eats and sleeps the 48re transmission.

Good luck.

your time with that tranny is limited....mine did the same thing and I had to do a complete rebuild....it searches for the 1-2.....get it rebuilt and do the necessary upgrades.....GM solenoid being one of them! Don't go to the dealer...call Dusty as Bigike said...I think he's up your way...
most likely though it's time for a rebuild/upgrade! These are tempramental trannys and usually 2nd is the first gear to go

Dusty is out of Michigan, but like all high quality and some very very low quality transmission builders they have certified shops that will install. They also ship to your house and you send back your tranny in their crate with no core, i believe. It's a 3,000 dollar tranny but it is warrantied with more than empty promises.

But YOU DONT NEED A NEW TRANNY, YOU ARE LOOKING TO GET AHEAD OF THE 8 BALL. BY SERVICING YOUR TRANNY, GETTING THE BANDS AND TV CABLE ADJUSTED RIGHT AND INSTALLING THE GM CONVERSION, AND OR A VALVE BODY YOUR DOING MORE GOOD THAN YOU CAN IMAGINE.

That thing is gonna shift like a wild man with that valve body!

Hey post a clip when you've got all that new jewelry in that ole girl!

Ops wrong post....... LOL.

Thats whay I get. They ju st opened a Chile's here in Singapore and since it's my favorite resturant ON EARTH i go too much and drink too many frozen margaritas!
