I have an 04 6 speed and I have read that some are putting dexIII in it. My manual says use 75w/85w synthetic.
The tremec t56 according to their websight uses dex III.
My question is: What fluid is the proper fluid to use and change it with?
I know that I can drain it and see the difference, but I want to have the correct fluid when I change it to avoid another trip to the wally world or dealer.
Thanks,

I use redline D4 bo, some use mobil 1 atf synthetic, both work great, about 4 quarts if I remember right, big difference in shiftin:D

that's what i use & it shifts much better......... if tremec says atf, that's good enough for me.:)

Will putting ATF in void factory warranty?

Probably not for an '04...that warranty is probably long gone.

For trucks still in warranty use of anything other than the prescribed lubricant is a solid basis for warranty problems. Tremec even recommends Mobil 1 ATF for the six-speed, but that will not sway Dodge.

I have used both Mobil 1 ATF and Royal Purple...they are both very good and shifting is much improved with both.

In that situation I would opt for the oem fluids...or at least change back to them prior to dealer visits.

Why give them the opportunity?

Tremec says d4/d4 and also says that the use of gear oil may damage internal parts.
So what is the correct oil?
Do I go with the owner manual or the manurfacturer of the transmision?

You go with the manufacturer until the warranty is up, then you go with the builder of the transmission!

Pretty simple...

Many of us have gone to Mobil 1 STF or Royal Purple once the warranty has expired.

I have Royal Purple Synthetic ATF in mine and it does shift much easier, especially when cold.

Yes, I would use it the 06 also.
