If you have opened up, used, applied, etc.. for an open credit account or an open line of credit from a credit grantor that used Trans Union to see your credit (one of the big three - Equifax, Experian and Trans Union).

Including, for instance automobile loans, bank credit cards, department store credit cards, other retail store credit cards, finance company loans, mortgage loans, and student loans located in the United States anytime from January 1, 1987 to May 28, 2008.

Trans Union was found to be responsible by the judge for selling the names/credit info of millions of consumers when there service was used to pull their credit for the above types of credit grantors.
You are entitled to a settlement from Trans Union, in the form of one of the following:

- Six months of credit monitoring service free, plus a possible small cash settlement

- Nine months of credit monitoring service free, nothing else.

- Straight up cash settlement (but it could take 2-3 years to get this).

You can sign up for benefits at: https://www.listclassaction.com/

Personally I choose the 9 month service, just because I really did not care to deal with waiting for a "small cash settlement" that may never come.

Appreciate the heads up, you'd be a fool not to register for this.. Everyone has had their credit checked at transunion.

How do we know that this is lagit----Looks like they want to collect your info....

While I'm sure everyone has probably been checked by them, is there a way to tell if you have ever been checked by trans union?

Yes, you can sign up for 1 months for $1.00 at - www.privacyguard.com, they will show you the past I think 24 months of inquiries on the credit reports, which agency was used to pull your credit, and your score from all three, and much more... you just have to cancel after 29 days or something like that otherwise its $13/mo.

BTW - I am not affiliated with any of these... me being a security engineer, I am allways on the lookout for scams, and others wellbeing.. :)
