Ok, I promised that when I got back form Houston, I'd give an offical update of what happened, where we are with forming a club, and what the next steps are. I came back early just to do that since so much misinformation seems to be out there and everyone is getting all wound up over nothing, so here it is, let the questions begin...
As I understand it, for a year or so there's been some interest in trying to form a club that has either recognition or support (on some level) from Dodge/DC. A couple of the members have been in touch with DC about that and what it would take to get it done. That was the underlying objective of the meeting and drove the actions we took in the meeting.
We decided as a group that we would form a club that is totally agnostic with respect to any and all forums out there. We would invite/allow members to join whether they were a member of a particular forum, or of no forum. We would not form our own forum, but would rather we would have a web site (linked to all appropriate forums) where we would publish club news, allow members to ask questions about their membership, etc, nothing more.
We formed a board of directors from everyone who was there, except two attendees, both of which withdrew themselves because of a conflict of interest. Officers were appointed for the initial formation of the club. You need to understand that all these actions are required to file an application for a non-profit organization/corporation because the officers and borad members names and addresses etc have to be included in that initial filing which we intend to accomplish in the next few days. We are filing for our corporate entity in Texas because Brady (I think his handle on this forum is VPR PWR) is a lawyer in Texas and volunteered his expertise to help us get all the paperwork filed etc.
The time lines we gave ourselves to get this accomplished are: we will have the paperwork in DC's hands in 30-45 days and we will give DC 90 days for a response once they get the paperwork to give us an indication of whether or not they wish to participate. If that answer is no, or if there is no answer, we'll regroup and decide (as a group) what, if anything we want to do to form a club outside of DC's blessing. There are a lot of personal opinions about whether or not DC will want to have anything to do with us, but at the end of the day, the chances are 50/50, they either will or won't but we decided to give it one shot.
I could go on and on about all that was said and done, but rather than do that, I'll just let everyone ask questions and I'll answer them.
