TREKER's Header and catless mids installation thread

Take that piece of shit spare battery box out-a-there and put a couple bolts or plugs in the two fender holes that are left. Really cleans up the engine compartment .... imo

Also .... Watch for fender well melt. Mine were fine for a year. As soon as I put the new hood the passenger side melted.(go figure???) Had to pull it out, trim, sand, back in last weekend.

Your job is coming out great so far ...... Be checkin it out Sunday.

Finally finished. The mids were a pain in the ass to get on. Lots of trimming since my magnaflow was hung so tight.

BADASS!!!!!! Carlo just left. More pics tomorrow. I am beat.

Carlo is on of the most generous people I have ever met. We had a ton of laughs. A true genuine person he is.

Truck is a beast now.

only Scotts balls are hung tighter than that magnaflow...hahahahahahah

I appreciate the kind words Scott. check the truck tomorrow (mainly the brakeline, oil dipstick tube, and the wires by the headers.

If anyone needs help with the install for headers I am only a flight away, which maybe cheaper than paying a shop!

Sure do James. I have two new jack stands, a Craftsman air compressor, a new floor jack, an air gun/nozzle thingy (for blowing compressed air) and a whole bunch of air tools, hand tools (all accumulated when I worked for a year as a maintenance tech for Nissan) and cold beer essential for some mechanical work. So we're good to go on tools. The only thing I can't seem to find are spark wire puller pliers.
 
I'm just concerned I will be faced with the same rusted bolts issue when removing my cats and exhaust manifold to install my Bassanis and high flow mids :)eek:OH SHOOT, I JUST REMEMBERED I HAVE TO ORDER THE MIDS FROM JUSTIN)....

I absolutely love it.

Started it this moring and popped like a gun shot... Had to back out of the garage immediatley before it shook the house down. Im sure I woke my neighbors :D I don't like them anyway ;)

Now that it is done, I every so often seem like I have a slight miss. Is this normal? Does the PCM automatically adjust after a while to handle the decreased back pressure?

I threw a code but I think it is from the same issue I had previously. The 02 sims are interesting. Never knew it was so simple a fix.

The hardest part was getting the mids to fit right. Not JMB's fault but my muffler installer since they left so little room for adjustment. When we finally got it on, I didn't even need the clamps but installed them anyway.

The sound is AMAZING. I will try and post some more pics and get a sound clip up later today. I noticed it takes a little more pedal to get me started but I assume that is due to decreased pressure. I also noticed you need less to get to the limiter. Once she gets moving, its night and day. 2nd gear can really just spin forever if you hit it right.

Now I need to detail the hell out of the thing. Working in a dusty shop all day put a protective coating on the truck. She will get a bath today but full detail tomorrow.

Thanks for the interest. Carlo gets the full credit for the work. Although I got dirtier in less time and was in charge of cutting exhaust pipe and burning myself if it were not for him, I would not be enjoying these things.

Funny thing is, I bought these headers from Carlo about a year go and he came all the way from AZ to unwrap them from the box he shipped them to me in. :D

On a scale of 1-10 difficulty I call this one a 7-8. Really a two man job but feasibly be done alone.

Most important detail of the day. Only 1 beer consumed!! :eek:
 
Like Scott said his Magnaflow was welded in. There were no problems getting the headers(to block) bolts off, simple 1/2 inch socket will work. We couldnot get the bolts from the manifold to the stock midpipes undone. In the future it is best to spray them dont with bolt lube penetrant. we sawzalled them offright after the bolt and one mid icut in 3 pieces.
time from me jacking up the truck to having the headers on including sawzalling the mids a lunch and waiting for scott to get me the right toold was 5 hours. with spark plugs back in and having it started.
we started it with open headers....Scott nearly crapped his pants.

Hpefully we will get out for a cruise on saturday morning, then we can get some drive by clips!

keeping the burrito box in allows the flextubing to stay off the headers.
that is a 10mm bolt to unscrew and move them out of the way.

if anyone has questions give me a ring or PM, let me know if i can help.

You're better off than I am dude. At the very least you can locate a Taco Bell if you're really desperate. Where I am now? A burrito? What in the hell is that? I can't wait to go back home.
 
Some White Castles, a pizza slice, a gyro, a shish-ka-bob or a simple double Whopper with extra pickels pickles would do, even...:(

Took mine a little driving to get the brain to adapt but all good now.

I love it when you start up in a parking lot and a bunch of heads twist around to see what that rumble is ... lol

Started arounf 11 am yesterday with really only Carlo working on it. I came out to help a bit here and there but he basically did the header swap. By 4pm the headers were done, stock mids out, and truck running on jack stands. I started with the mids at 4ish and could have been done in maybe two hours if my magnaflow was able to move an 1/8" to slide the mids onto the header flanges. I ended up trimming more of the exaust pipe and a 1/4" off the mids to get them on. The clamps overed everything perfectly thought. I was cleaning up @ 7:15 and testing it out by 7:30. So with an hour for lunch it took about 7 hrs start to finish inclluding the clean up. Remembered it took some time to get the damn wheels off too.
