Truck in shop. What to do?

I figured I might as well make do of an empty garage. Picked up this kit from Home Depot for around $60. Three hours to clean out all the crap and prep the floor. 24 hours to dry as it was hot and kinda humid. One hour to paint on and sprinkle the color flakes. Your not supposed to drive on it for 7 days, so the longer it takes my truck to get put back together, the less it sits outsite! Now thats looking on the good side!!;)

I think it looks very clean and kinda cool!

Great timing would have been to do it last weekend, then if I get my truck early this week, it'll go right back in there outta the sun and kids with bikes!! LOL

I drove on my after 48 hours with no problem. But if you can wait, I'm sure all the better. Makes a whole new garage doesn't it?!

Yeah it really does. I have been wanting to do it for a while but didnt want to leave the beast in the driveway for a week and pull out all the shit I store in there.

Looks great Patrick. What's the texture like, is it smooth or rough?
 
I kept the smooth/stock finish. You can buy an additional texture kit to add that to the surface.

Hopefully it wont rain in the next couple of days. I have all my crap out the back door of the garage!!! LOL Had several of my neighbors over looking at it......yep they will be doing the same thing soon!!

Kit comes with some citric acid stuff you disolve into a bucket and then you scrub the shit out of the garage floor. That took a good 90 minutes+. They really state that prep is very important for the epoxy paint to ahere to the concrete. I actually had bought additional cleaner for the floor but fricken left it in my truck (which is in the shop). I bought stiff brush on a pole as well and a squeegy to help pull the water out of the garage when doing the cleaning. I cheaped out and bought the squeegy not on a pole and just mounted it on an old broom stick.....and it worked great.

Its really a simple job. Just takes some time to clean out the garage and clean the floor. Painting the epoxy on is simple (used a brush for the edges and a roller for everything else) and only took 45 to an hour. I actually cleaned on Sat and let it dry for 24 hours. I had some very fine cracks in the floor and wanted all the moisture to dry, just to be safe.

Hope that splains it all. Definatey a garage mod anybody can do. LOl

thanks for the detailed description...one more question...how did you sprinkle the flakes after you painted the floor...i mean.. you cant walk on the floor right??? so how did you ensure even sprinkleage? is that a word?
 
Looks good Patrick.I am doing that in my 2.5 car garage .I am also going to do it in the 6 car garage I am building under the house. Want to do it in black and paint the double yellow lines in like a black top road.

Sprinkleage is a word but spelled sprinkledge!! LOL


You roll a section at a time then do the sprinkledge of the flakes!! I was chinsy with the flakes so at the end I had lots left over. So I ended up tossing big wads of flakedge across the floor, thank goodness the wind was blowing to help.

If you notice in the pic, I didnt take out two big shelves or the washer and dryer. Painted around them. They were way to full and heavy to move.

You gonna do it yourself or pay somebody Rokt? Thats a lot of floor to prep!

Gonna look cool though. Are you turning your basement into the 6 car garage? Live on a hill do ya?
